Terry Pearson Obituary

Terry (Whitey) Pearson was born on May 14, 1929 in Mundelein, IL. Died on April 2, 2020 in Chicago. He is survived by his four children, Terry A. Pearson, Mary C. (James) Dunlavy, Kevin L. Pearson and Karen F. Pearson. Granddaughter-in-law, Mavreen Dunlavy; and three great-grandchildren, Kyla, James and Braden Dunlavy. Preceded in death by parents, Bertil and Olga Pearson; brother, Carl Pearson; and grandson, Christopher J. Dunlavy.

Whitey played basketball at Senn High School in Chicago and went on to play Division 1 basketball for The University of Kentucky. After leaving Kentucky, he married Hilde Catino and began working for Catino Builders in Arlington Heights where he was a salesman and builder. He then went to work at WCFL Radio in "on air" sales. After this, he got his dream job at WGN TV as an account executive where he worked from 1969-2002, 33 years. He was an avid Chicago sports fan and especially liked the Cubs and Bulls, and attended many Bears games with a life-long friend. He kept in shape by swimming daily at the Chicago Athletic Club and being a member at Bob-O-Link Golf Course. His leisure time was spent at Gene & Georgetti's where he was a founding member of the Mahogany Club. He had so many of his own words for things, and if you knew him this will bring you a chuckle. His car was his sled, eating a meal was groceries and an iron horse was a train. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Interment is private, with a memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Kyle Schwarber's charity, Schwarber's Heroes at schwarbersheroes.org.

Yesterday we laid my father to rest. Yes he had a eye for the ladies
His heart was as large as his laugh, He requested to be buried .
With his true love our mom. I asked him for a sign when he dies
That he was ok. My sister asked for names of deacons.
They gave her some. She picked one . He happened to be a close
Friend and his brother golfed with him . It was never unusual
To run into someone who had some kind of connection with him.
I take it as a sign. He had three grandkids. . Kyla who he would say was
So smart and a beauty . JJ who he thought would be the athlete
Then there was Braden who he called BRADY. He talked non stop
About sports . He thought he could be an agent someday.
They argued about LABRON verses JORDAN. We love all the beautiful
Words . We miss him terribly. When the world is in a better place
We liked to get together in tribute to one of a kind.
Thank you all

WAS SHOCKED TO SEE WHITEYS OBIT IN THE PAPER. GOT TO KNOW HIM WHEN I WAS WITH LAKE SHORE BANK. WE CONTINUED TO REMAIN FRIENDS AND SOMETIMES LENDER. HE WAS ALSO A JOY TO BE WITH. TRIED TO SEE HIM OVER PAST FEW YEARS BY SURPRISING HIM AT GENE AND GEORGETTE'S BUT ONLY WAS ABLE TO DO IT ONCE. BUT DID GET TO CALL HIM AT TIMES. HE WAS VERY KIND TO MY FAMILY INVITING ALL OF US UP TO THE SOX SKY BOX ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. HE KNEW I WAS A BIG SOX FAN. MY CONDOLENCE TO HIS FAMILY. HE WILL SURELY BE MISSED.

My husband Chuck was a 45 year friend of Whitey's and the memories they shared together all over the world were/are priceless. I came late to the Whitey Fan Club but will always be a lifelong member. May he rest in peace and may his beautiful family be comforted by all the memories from this legendary and much loved Chicago figure. He lived a life others could only dream about.

My heart skipped a beat when I heard Whitey passed on. I thought that would never be an option for Whitey. He filled a room and made you laugh like no one else...always making you feel more than welcome.

Recalling my guest appearances at the
Mahoganay Club (aka Gene and Georgetti's) Whitey always asked how my Mom was doing, paid her a compliment and told me to say hello for him.
Considering Whitey hadn't seen my Mom in at least 17 years (since my Dad John Joyce passing on) it made a lasting impression.

I'll miss you Whitey. Just so you know when I was younger my Dad would always tell me what a great guy you were. How right he was.

Pat Joyce

PS I'm betting my Dad will be there to greet you at the Pearly Gates, start talking basketball and belly laughing will commence within seconds. :)

Whitey was the pied piper of advertising sales. No one developed better relationships with clients than Whitey.
He was a treasure in the media word who had a captivating personality and a joy for live. Even when his joke material lacked substance, his uncanny delivery would bring about a belly laugh. His love of sports was our initial connection, but with Whitey you could strike up a conversation about anything. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and the many friends he left behind.

I was blessed to meet Whitey when I was a young man. He and my father were very close. Throughout the years I was fortunate to spend time with him in Chicago, Lake Geneva, Scottsdale and Florida . It never mattered where you were , if you were with Whitey you were in the right place, his trade make smile and laugh, his own vocabulary ( Sled, high pile, groceries) and most of all his gentle wisdom of making a glass more than half full.

Whitey rolled , he laughed and he made countless others laugh. He shall be missed by many.

Whitey had the most unique sense of humor and when you talked to Kim he made you feel like he was completely engaged. I asked him for advice often because he had a keen sense about human nature. He was more than just a fixture at G&G, he was the cornerstone of all of the myriad human dramas that were happening around him. And always with the jokes that kept everyone entertained. Prayers for the family at this difficult time.
