BHOB STEWART Obituary

STEWART--Bhob. Died at 76 on February 24 in Plymouth, MA. Born in Meridian, MS, on November 12, 1937, Bhob graduated in 1959 from Sam Houston State. Bhob is widely credited with inventing the term "underground comics" in 1966. In 1969, Bhob curated the first exhibition of underground comic art, at the Corcoran Gallery. Bhob worked as an editor at Topps Chewing Gum and created Wacky Packages. Bhob edited the magazine Castle of Frankenstein, was a contributor to The Realist, Roxy Funnies, The Comics Journal, Heavy Metal, wrote Against the Grain: Mad Artist Wallace Wood (2003) and penned an underground pastiche, Tales from the Fridge (1973). In his later years, he wrote a blog, potrzebie.blogspot.com, and over 1,000 Wikipedia entries. Bhob is survived by his brother Joe B. Stewart of Arlington, VA. A memorial service will be held May 4, at 2pm at the Butler Library, Room 523 at Columbia University.

I was always the younger brother and he was the elder. I was most fortunate to have him to lead the way.
