Dr KHANH NGUYEN repaired my daughter´s heart 14 years ago this month and I´m saddened to hear he´s passed away. I am forever thankful and grateful for such an incredible Doctor who kept my first born child alive and thanks to him she has lived a healthy childhood and he will forever be part of our story.

I was asked by a coworker the name of the surgeon who saved my sons life, and I am so sadden to here of his passing.
My son was born a premature and we found out 3 days into his life that he has a VSD which would not close on his own along with some other complications. We new he would need surgery and we had to wait until he was a cretin weight in order for them to preform surgery. Dr Nguyen was amazing. We were first time parents and stressed at what awaited our son. my husband even suffered a heat attack week prior to our sons surgery. Dr Nguyen was there for us.
I cannot express enough what a kind and caring man he was.
He saved our sons life and we will be forever graceful.

My son, Michael, was born with a right aortic arch which was discovered during a sonogram five months before his birth. His pediatric cardiologist from Columbia-Presbyterian Children´s Hospital told us that if he should ever need surgery, Dr Nguyen was the absolute best doctor we could hope for to do the surgery. All was good until the winter of 2018-2019, when my son who was now 11, began having pain in his chest cavity. I immediately knew what this was. His pediatric cardiologist in Orange County told us of a surgeon who he felt no one could match. His name was Dr. Nguyen! I knew that I had to have him perform the surgery on my son.
We were beyond fortunate to have this brilliant doctor and wonderful man perform the surgery for which he was truly a pioneer in his unusual technique and approach to performing a surgery involving his aorta wrapped around his esophagus, and doing so with minimal invasion. Dr. Nguyen will always be a hero in my eyes; the world lost an exceptional man. My profound and deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

15 years ago, Dr. Nguyen performed heart surgery on me for my heart condition called coarctation of the aorta. Now, I am soon to be 23 years old and live a perfectly happy, healthy life. So sorry to hear about Dr. Ngyuen's passing. Such a big loss as he was an extremely talented, kind, and wise soul. Thank you! Rest in peace <3

Dr.Nguyen performed open heart surgery on my 3 month old daughter in March 2003. She is turning 20 years old on January 1 2023 and is in perfect health. We are eternally grateful to this fine man who performed this miraculous surgery. Only now (December 2022) did we learn of his passing. Condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Dr Nguyen was a genius in his technical skills and humanity... We just found out about this and we are heartbroken.. he saved our sons life in 2010... he was caring and wonderful with our then, 10 year old son. As parents we were nervous scared and unsure of the decision. Dr Nguyen was amazing and spoke to our son as if he was his own. Nick survived and is 22 years. old graduated college ....and all thanks to this selfless Surgeon who saved hundreds of lives.. Just heard of Dr. Nguyen's passing, and we were so shocked. We went for an annual checkup to our Pediatric Cardiologist who worked so closely with him and she informed us of his tragic accident. Sincere condolences to his family and colleagues. This is a loss that is suffered by all in the Pediatric Cardiac field of medicine. Dr. Nguyen performed an ASD repair on our daughter over 16 years ago.....and she is a healthy young women because of him today.

I just learned today of the sudden passing of my son´s extraordinary heart surgeon, Dr. Nguyen, the wonderful pediatric heart surgeon, who assured me with gentleness and strong assurance, that he would be able to repair Brian´s A/V canal defect repair. I am forever grateful to Dr. Nguyen for saving my son´s life and for his compassion during a very difficult time for our family. Brian is a heart healthy 18 year old today because of this wonderful doctor. God Bless you, Doctor Nguyen, and thank you for choosing to be a talented surgeon with a big heart who was destined to save many other hearts in your vocation.. We are heartbroken He saved our son´s life. He performed his surgeries when my son was only 9 days old and 6 months old. My condolences to DR. Nguyen friends, colleagues and family. I am so heartbroken and can't stop crying, I just found out. He saved my daughter's life when she was 4 mounts old, 20 years ago. I never forget the first time I met him, so confident that it took away all my worries, I can never forget his hands, a true surgeon's hand, I was afraid to shake his hand, I didn't want any thing happen to his hand. I can't believe that he is gone. I am for ever grateful to him.

Sincere condolences to the family. Dr. Nguyen performed multiple surgeries to fix my son's heart. He was very kind to us, always optimistic that my son would make it. I got to know Dr. Nguyen when I was a trainee Anesthesiologist. He was an excellent surgeon but more importantly, he was patient, kind and giving. I had the privilege of joining him on a trip to Vietnam where he trained other surgeons and helped kids with complex cardiac issues. I have the utmost respect for him. My condolences on his passing.

We have come to know Dr. Khanh Nguyen as both a good friend and an extremely talented colleague in our Vietnamese American Medical Association.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of the death of your husband, our great friend and teacher of heart surgery in Vietnam and around the world.
Prof. Khanh was thoughtful and generous, and his devotion to children with heart diseases is admirable. I always remembered when Hue Cardiac Center was built by Atlantic Philanthropies in 2007, we invited Prof Khanh who helped us to train the local team and perform heart surgery for Vietnamese children, and then he did do it as a son of Hue City. He presents as a very active and spirited person who took part in most of our community activities. I am sure he will be remembered fondly by those who got to know him.
I will cherish the memories I have of Prof Khanh. I remember meeting Khanh and you for the last time at a dinner party in New York 2017. His commitment to maintaining support cardiac surgery in VietNam and his smile lit the room.
Let Lord bless you and his family with the strength to sail though this tough situation.

GS Khánh là người chu đáo, rộng lượng và sự tận tâm của ông đối với trẻ em mắc bệnh tim rất đáng khâm phục. Tôi luôn nhớ khi Trung tâm Tim mạch Huế do Atlantic Philanthropies xây dựng vào năm 2007, chúng tôi đã mời GS Khánh, người đã giúp chúng tôi đào tạo đội ngũ địa phương và phẫu thuật tim cho trẻ em Việt Nam, và sau đó ông đã làm điều đó với tư cách là một người con của Thành phố Huế. Anh ấy thể hiện là một người rất năng động và có tinh thần, người đã tham gia hầu hết các hoạt động cộng đồng của chúng tôi. Tôi chắc chắn rằng anh ấy sẽ được nhớ đến một cách trìu mến bởi những ai đã biết về anh ấy.
Tôi sẽ trân trọng những kỷ niệm mà tôi có về GS Khánh. Tôi nhớ đã gặp Khánh và bạn lần cuối trong một bữa tiệc tối ở New York 2017. Cam kết duy trì hoạt động phẫu thuật tim hỗ trợ ở Việt Nam và nụ cười của anh ấy đã thắp sáng cả căn phòng.

I had the pleasure of being in the same club with Khan. He seemed to cherish his time spent on the field and in the sky. Khanh was incredibly humble, and exuded a sense of peace. He tried to be just one of the guys, but he was special, he's saved so many others. To his family, I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Dr. Nguyen was a great Surgeon. I was amazed with his techniques. He modified instruments in a way where he can work alone because he would always say that in small babies the field is so small that it becomes a one man job only. He’s very talented. He really cared for his patients and their family. Dr. Nguyen, you have helped so many kids in different walks of life. I still can’t believe you’re gone. It hurts. Your family is grieving as well as all your colleagues and your patients. We lost a great surgeon. You were gone to soon. You made a big impact in the lives of so many. I found out the news today and it has left my heart feeling very heavy. Dr. Nguyen took care of our son Jonathan for his heart repair at 4 weeks and 6 days old along with his team of staff and nurses. Because of Dr. Nguyen Jonathan does not have have a zipper scar, he has been cleared from cardiology for 2 years, and he is a happy and active little boy. There are no words that can explain the gratitude our family feels for Dr. Nguyen and the care he provided us. He truly is an amazing man who will never be forgotten. RIP, Dr. Nguyen and thank you for your selfless service.

Dr. Kahn Nguyen was a wonderful pediatric surgeon. As a scrub nurse it was amazing to witness the sheer creativity and resourcefulness he would employ in operating on sometimes extremely tiny babies. He invented retractors that would allow him to operate almost singlehandedly on a field that was fraught with visual and space limitations owing to tiny incisions and limited space. He showed the utmost respect and professionalism for the whole team. When the case became fraught with stress and danger, he would stay calm and composed. I will always remember how patient he was... he would wait for infinite patches of time before closing to make sure the patient had stopped bleeding and check if the blood products were inducing the correct response in the patient. He was a true gentleman and our hearts will always miss our gentle surgeon who changed so many lives for the better. Fly with the Angels, Dr. Nguyen. We will miss you always.

Dr. Nguyen gave my son a second chance at life when he performed my son's heart transplant in Dec. 2001. Without his gift and skills as a surgeon, my son would not be turning 20 this Friday. It was December 13th, 2001 that he performed the surgery. Christopher, my son, came to me today to tell me about Dr. N's passing. He found out from his girlfriend, who ironically was also saved through cardiac surgery performed when she was an infant by Dr. N. He not only saved 2 babies, strangers at the time, but those babies have now found one another and have been given the opportunity to find first love. The circle of life that he unknowingly brought to this world, in just this one example, is part of his legacy as a great surgeon. Our prayers and deepest sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues.

A man of amazing skills and enormous compassion. In 2008 or 2009, at the end of my cardiac care mission in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the team was asked to see a cyanotic baby just born there. He had d-transposition with intact ventricular septum. The team had no further available oxygenator to perform surgical care. After finding a balloon catheter among our supply, we performed Rashkind atrial septostomy. This infant was sent to the Mount Sinai Hospital where Dr. Nguyen successfully performed arterial switch operation.
Recently, I had an unusual privilege to make a connection between Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Cao Khang, a pediatric heart surgeon in Ho Chi Minh Ciry over a care of dilated myocardiopathy patient.
In all contacts I had with Dr. Nguyen, he was kind full of knowledge and compassionate.
I am stunned losing him. My deepest sympathy to all who love and miss him.
