Prof. Simpson had an enormous impact on my college experience, and I enjoyed keeping in touch with him in years since. I learned a lot from him -- not just about Egypt, but about art, opera, philanthropy, and Old New York. RIP, WKS.

Dear Abby and the entire Simpson family. The death of our dear friend Kelly who we knew since the early 70's and both shared living space with at the Green House in Boston in the 70's, while one of us (JQT) had the great pleasure to spend two weeks with Kelly in July 1974 in Cairo as he worked at Giza, comes as a great loss to us as he was one of our dearest and most long known friends. Through Kelly, we met his wife Marilyn, his daughters Abby and Laura and so many other members of his family as well as many of his friends and colleagues. There are so many stories that come to mind when we think of Kelly, so many fun times and so much more that will stay in our memories of Kelly forever. Kelly, we will miss you. John Q. As a member of Timothy Dwight College, Kelly opened his home to us with love, warmth and kindness. Kelly and his "Llamaland" will remain fondly in my memory. We at Yale will surely miss him.

Dear Simpson family,
I am sorry to hear about your great loss. As the days pass, missing "William" will get greater at times but with the many prayers and thoughts from all will help you get through the difficult days ahead.
May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" comforts all who mourn and sustain your family.

I met Kelly as a Yale undergrad in the mid-1970s, and he was kind enough to include me in the 1977 Yale-Giza Expedition as a staff artist tracing the hieroglyphs in the tombs around the Great Pyramid. He could read the glyphs better than I could read French. We had a lot of fun that summer and I enjoyed seeing him in NYC from time to time. A brilliant man, and unique. We will miss you, Kelly!

As a professor, Kelly Simpson could be both stern and kind. I am very grateful to Professor Simpson for taking me on as a dissertation student at a time of life when most professors have retired. He had an immense knowledge of many different fields. I am saddened by his departure and extend my condolences to his family.

What a life lived to the fullest! All while sharing and enlightening countless Students, colleagues, and his Family, no doubt. I look forward to learning more through his many books and research articles. Condolences to William O'Neill, all extended Family, and all those who knew him.

He was my very erudite, cool, amazing uncle who "looked away" when his nieces and nephews were up to shanagins that could have gotten us all in BIG trouble with our parents....and others. Love to his daughter Abby, who took great care of him.

Meeting Professor Simpson, and receiving kind and encouraging words from him has been a highlight in my life in Egyptology. He was as kind and generous as he was knowledgeable. A true scholar and a true gentleman.

Although I was never fortunate enough to meet him, his work inspired me enormously and has a special place in my library. May he rest in peace.
