Here is a Beautiful painting Arthur painted of himself

I own Arthur's "The Manning House." It hangs over my kitchen table. It reminds me of a house in Williamston, NC. And every time I look at it I think of Arthur. I do miss him.

Arthur had a terrific sense of humor. He used to telephone and pretend to be someone else. And it usually would be an hilarious name. Four planned sittings turned into six with six packs of beer and an interesting visit. The finished 39x48 masterpiece now hangs in my foyer, over the piano. Arthur will be missed for a long time, and may he rest in peace.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Arthur Coppedge's passing. I met Arthur when we both lived in Turner Towers in Brooklyn. He was a great inspiration to me. I owe much of my personal style in drawing and painting to what I learned from Arthur. I can still smell the oils and turps in his apartment/studio that looked out onto the Brooklyn Museum, a subject of many of his works. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

I am very saddened by Arthur's passing. I will miss our long telephone chats. We laughed a lot. He worked very hard to make his new home a special place so that he could showcase his work. I hope his home becomes a special place for his art, he was Brooklyn's own artist.

I was very saddened to hear of Arthur's death. He was a very important person for me during my formative years. It was while I was with him that, from age 21 to 29, that I really became a person. I send much love to him and to his family. He was a fine man and an excellent painter. May his spirit live on! And thanks so much to Courtney for contacting me here in France - I hope to meet you some day. Love to all of you who remain to carry on his legacy, Elizabeth (Betsy) Wright

I am sad to hear of Arthur's passing. My deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and all who know him. What a great artist and person! I met Arthur when we lived in the same building, Turner Towers on Eastern Parkway. As an artist I was very encouraged by Arthur's work and also his gentle, calm, soft spoken demeanor. Arthur encouraged me with my career in digital art even though he did not know much about computers. But he was fasinated by the new approaches artists were taking. At my first showing at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden Fence Show I won first prize and part of the credit goes to Arthur! I will chant for his spirit to continue painting wherever he calls home now because as he said many times, "All I want to do is paint!" I hope you get your wish Arthur. Peace. You will be missed.

Sincerely, John Hynes

In the 1970's I worked for Alexander's Department Store in Manhattan. Arthur Coppedge walked though, stopped me, and asked if he could paint me. I was young but intrigued. I went to his studio - wore a turtleneck and jeans - and sat in a chair while he began the sketch. There was a painting on an easel he entitled "everything is everything" (people sitting on a stoop, talkiing) and said "it's true, but you're too young to know that yet". I am 52 years old and he was right - many times over. So in his studio some 30+ years ago was a just-started sketch of a faceless girl who was fascinated by this artist but too young to return. My heartfelt sympathies to his family and dear friends - he was a gentle soul and a talented artist.
