Jules Bernard Bashkin
December 20, 1921 – January 28, 2026, Age 104
Jules Bernard Bashkin, a New Yorker by birth and a man of extraordinary vitality, passed away at the age of 104. Born in New York City on December 20, 1921, Jules lived a remarkable life defined by service, curiosity, humor, music, and deep devotion to family and community.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Luella "Chickie" Bashkin.
Jules is survived by his sons, Lloyd Scott Bashkin and his life partner Lisa Formica, and Robert Miles Bashkin and his wife Evelyn; his cherished grandchildren, Marisa Gefen and her husband Jon, and Carly Cohen and her husband Jason; his great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Hallie, Hunter, Sammy, Violet, Caleb, and Stella, who brought him immense pride and joy; and his loving life partner, Elizabeth Morgan.
A proud World War II veteran, Jules was selected for the prestigious Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) and was assigned by the Army to attend Georgetown University and the Virginia Military Institute, where he went on to serve in the United States' top-secret radar program. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge, an experience that shaped his lifelong interest as an avid and knowledgeable WWII historian.
Following his military service, Jules finished a degree at Long Island University and built a distinguished 50-year career as a premier wholesale mattress salesman with King Koil, earning national recognition for his achievements and professionalism in the industry.
Never one to slow down, at the age of 80 Jules launched a second career as the founder and saxophone player of the Survivors Swing Band, a highly successful 7-piece ensemble that performed more than 800 shows throughout Southern Connecticut. Music was not just a passion; it was an expression of his enduring energy and love of life.
For more than 40 years, Jules was an original and devoted member of a For Men Only men's group, valuing friendship, support, and community.
During his extraordinary 104 years of life, Jules experienced a world transformed-from a time when horse-and-buggy transportation was still part of everyday life to an era in which he became an early adopter of computers and iPhones. His lifetime spanned many of the most significant events and transformations in modern history.
He will be remembered for his dry wit, sharp mind, generosity of spirit, and magnetic personality. Jules was endlessly curious and deeply engaged with the world around him-qualities that endeared him to all who knew him.
Jules Bernard Bashkin lived fully, laughed often, and was always there to listen and support others. He left behind a legacy of service, music, family, and character that will continue to inspire generations.
