Stephen Meehan

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Stephen (Steve) Stuart Meehan on January 14, 2026 at the Friends of Caroline Hospice in Beaufort, SC at the age of 80. Steve will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his kind heart and his generous hugs. At the time of his death, Steve was a proud resident of Fripp Island, SC.

Steve was born at Georgetown Hospital, Washington, DC on May 7, 1945 to parents Robert and Elizabeth (Veech) Meehan. He grew up in the DC/NOVA area where he attended Gonzaga High School and Georgetown University (briefly) before heading to West Virginia to attend Wheeling Jesuit College. While at Wheeling, Steve met the love of his life, Christine (Christy) Synowiec. They were married in 1970 and enjoyed more than 55 years together.

Steve was passionate about home projects, crossword puzzles, and reading. He loved living near the water and participating in a variety water sports and beach games. He also enjoyed listening to his favorite musicians (Jim Croce, Alabama and John Denver to name a few), pickleballing with his Fripp Island neighbors (he was known for his killer serve) and playing board and card games with his family (his family is known for the competitive spirit he fostered and encouraged).

In 2018, Steve survived a double lung transplant and was gifted 7 ½ additional joyful years of life. He spent that time travelling to exotic places with Christy, playing with their pup Charlie and enjoying gorgeous Fripp Island sunsets. He especially loved spending time with his grandkids, always supporting their sporting events, birthdays and educational milestones.

Steve is predeceased by his beloved son, Stephen Ryan, as well as his parents, Robert and Veech, and his siblings, Bill & Betty.

He is survived by his wife Christy Meehan; his children, Kerrie Sheppard (married to Tal), Colleen Pavlick (married to Eric) and Eleanor (Ellie) Domina (married to Wayne), as well as his grandchildren: Taylor Pavlick, Ryleigh Pavlick, Jackson Sheppard, and Emmett Domina.

Steve requested to be cremated and will be interred at the Fripp Island Columbarium. A memorial service will be held in Steve's honor on 15 March, 2026 at 4:00p.m. at the Fripp Island Chapel and Community Center. For more details: https://evite.me/6g8DHxMM5c
