Joan Rosenberg, 93, passed away on Friday, January 30th at Whitney Center in Hamden, Connecticut, a mile away from the home in Spring Glen where she and her late husband, Marc, had raised their family. Joan was born June 16th, 1932 in Scranton, PA, the first child of the late Meyer and Lillian Gertler.
Joan's life was made rich with her art. Joan worked with many media and shared her passion with her family and the community through her work with the Mount Carmel Art Association and the New Haven Paint & Clay Club.
Joan's life was not without its tragedies. Joan lost her baby sister when she herself was just a child. Joan was only 52 when she lost the love of her life, Marc, to cancer. She was also predeceased by her brother, Eugene (Gene) Gertler.
Joan leaves behind her three daughters, Leslie Haller, Naomi Rosenberg (Eric Bowman) and Beth Richter (Fred Richter), two grandchildren, Owen Haller (Allyson Getchell) and Orly Richter, and two young great-grandchildren, Walter and Nikola. Her love of nature and appreciation for learning and education are among the legacies she shared. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 3rd at noon at Congregation Mishkan Israel, 785 Ridge Road in Hamden.
