MARK MARTINEZ Obituary

MARTINEZ--Mark Viatori, died peacefully on Thursday January, 23, 2014 surrounded by loving family. He was 41 years old. He was a father, husband, son, brother, friend, accomplished builder, sea captain, big wave surfer, philanthropist, saltwater fisherman, snowboarder, soccer and hockey player. He is survived by his wife, Uli (Ulrike) De Vreese Martinez, his daughters, Juliana De Vreese Martinez, 7, and Esmee Nicolina Martinez, 4, his parents, Antonia Viatori Martinez and Albert A. Martinez, his step-father, Friedrich (Fritz) Pangratz, his sister, the Honorable Stefanie A. Martinez, brother-in-law, Sergeant Steve Garcia, nieces, Isabela Martinez Thibodeau and Sofia Martinez Thibodeau, nephews, Nicolas Martinez and Maximilian Martinez, great-aunt Magali Leiseca, aunts, Maria Ryan, Joanna Martinez, Sister Maria Viatori, OCD, Nancy Anne Viatori, and uncles, Wilfred Martinez, Maximilian Viatori and Robert Ryan. Mark was recognized by colleagues, friends and family members for his honest nature and can-do attitude. There was never an obstacle that Mark didn't meet with a smile and tackle with vigor, determination and grace. His unique style and presence, especially in the face of challenges others would have shied away from, distinguished him as an individual. Doing good by doing right was his way. Mark was defined by generosity and fierce loyalty. Mark invested 100% of himself into everything he committed to - his family, friends, sports and business. Family was paramount for Mark. Mark was a resident of both Manhattan and Southampton, NY. He was born in Rochester, NY on November 7th, 1972. Mark grew up in Rumson, NJ where he attended Rumson Country Day School, Rumson Fair Haven High School and ultimately matriculated to UNC Wilmington, where he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity. Professionally, Mark built upon the foundation that his father created when he assumed responsibility of Interior Management, Inc (IMI). He had a specific vision for the company, focused on quality workmanship and culture, and has grown the business into Manhattan, the Hamptons, and New Jersey's foremost construction and renovation partner. A Memorial Visitation will be held at Frank E. Campbell at 1076 Madison Ave. Monday January 27th from 4pm-9pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at The Church of St. Ignatius Loyola at 980 Park Ave. on Tuesday January 28th at 4pm. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to Habitat for Humanity.

I was very saddened to hear about Mark's passing and would like to extend my condolences to his entire family. I had not spoken to or seen Mark since high school but as I read his obituary, it brought a smile to my face to know that he had approached life with the same zeal and adventurousness as he had when we were both kids, roaming around Rumson, NJ on our dirt bikes, surfing the Jersey shore, and dressing up like Ninjas. One of my fondest memories of Mark was our time together as bunkmates at Teton Valley Ranch Camp in Wyoming, where we learned how to ride horses, fly fish and camp in the backcountry. I remember that Mark was the de facto leader of our group of twenty 13 year old boys from around the country. He was always curious and never shied away from a challenge, even back then. His enthusiasm was contagious and I think all of us naturally followed in his footsteps.
Mark, you will always be in my memories. God bless you.

What a privilege it was to work in four of Mark's projects. He was an extraordinary person, who always and at every moment inspired everyone with a "can be done" attitude; always polite and with the sincerest smile. I will always remember that cold day in the middle of January when we went to measure the frame of a home in the Hamptons; on the way back Mark asked the driver to first stop by the shore to look at the ocean; he had a busy schedule ahead of him that evening in the city, however he took the time to enjoy for a moment and in silence the splendid view. You will be missed very much.

I has the honor and pleasure of working on door hardware projects with Mark. He was a beautiful person with an incredible charm and sense or humor. He threw huge holiday parties that were some of the best I've ever been to and always made it a point to talk to every single person in the room. He was genuine, warm, brilliant, talented and so kind. This is such a deep loss to so many people who loved and respected Mark. My love goes out to his entire family and all the people who will miss Mark.

Some people never build a home. Some people never have a family. Some people never feel the thrill of riding a wave or the tug of a fish on the line or the beauty of an elegant ceiling. Some people never love. Mark Martinez did.
Since he passed we have not stopped thinking and talking about Mark. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Uli, Juju, Esmee and the rest of the Martinez family. May Mark rest in peace.

Circumstances prevent our being there with you, but we are there in thought and prayer, especially for Isabela and Sofia, our lovely granddaughters, who lost their Tio. And to all the rest of the Martinez Family, especially Uli, Juliana, Esmee, Tonia, Al, and Stefalie, no words describe your personal loss. Just know we understand. Charlie so enjoyed spending time with Mark when they got together, and they are together again, unbelievably so, in a way that they are still with us, too - a way that is invisible to our eyes, yet so very near to us.
May you all find support in each other. We are sure you will. God bless you
