JEROME SOLIN Obituary
age 89, died Sunday, June 26, 2016. Raised in Bayonne, he practiced dentistry in New Jersey and New York for 60 years. A United States Navy veteran of WWII, he graduated from University of Virginia and NYU Dental School. At the age of 40, he ran the first of 65 marathons. He was a collector and authority of jazz. Dr. Solin was preceded in death by daughters Nina and Alexa. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, artist Trudy Solin, son Dr. Seth Solin and daughter-in-law Janet Poon Solin and granddaughter Julia; son David Solin and granddaughters Serena and Alana. Graveside service on Friday, July 1 at 10:15am at Beth El Cemetery, Paramus, NJ. Contributions in Jerry's memory to Jazz Society at Lincoln Center.

I saw a video about you and a young girl and it touched my heart so much. I’ve always loved the older generation and always been so close with my grandparents especially my great nan and great grandad. My great nan passed away in October 2020 and I’ve really been struggling. She unfortunately died exactly 5 weeks before I gave birth to her first ever Great Great Grandchild. Jerry, you seemed like such an amazing man and you did so much in your life. Your family must be so proud of you to know everything you accomplished and achieved. To my surprise, millions and millions of people have seen the video and were introduced to your incredible life and smile. One of the sweetest old man I've seen through the internet. Might not have been able to met him but I teared up because he reminded me of so many like him, who are waiting for someone to come along and enjoy all the knowledge he had to offer. Not many go to museums to delve into the art that's actually there, but I do, and it was so nice seeing him become friends with the girl. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

I have been shown the kindness of two strangers sharing their lives with each other. I have been the recipient of a random act of kindness. When I was visiting the MOMA in New York on vacation, I noticed poetic things. I noticed how rooms of art represented certain chunks of human existence, and how every piece had its own capture of emotion. One thing that stuck out to me was a man, dressed in a suit, drawing artwork that was in front of him. I have remembered this moment for years, and only now has it come to light who he was. Like a lot of others, I’m here from a TikTok. Watching that almost made me cry, because I reminisced on that moment in wonder. The moment of sonder and curiosity of a life I knew nothing about, but filled with dreams of past loves and lives lived. Even though he was a soul I passed briefly, he made an impact on my life eternally without saying a word. From what it seems, that is a common theme and quite frankly he lived a glorious life filled with people who love endlessly. Thank you, to Jerome and to his family. Know that his life impacted more than just the people close to him.

The world was a better place where ever Jerry was. He brought his passions and love of life to all he encountered.
