Dearest Richard, I just found Matthews obituary and it made me very sad and at the same time full of joy. Matthew was such a beautiful person with such vibrancy and ability to connect with people. Later on in life his connection was through food and how he enjoyed cooking and sharing what he knew about food preparation and love and making people smile after the 2 of you would prepare snd serve a meal. I send you love; I miss you, too.

Dear Richard, so many sweet memories of time with you and Matthew. I will forever smile to myself at the sight of him at a book show, waving his arms at me, beaming as only he could, and calling my name in that booming stage voice as we rode escalators in opposite directions. Matthew brought so many gifts to the world. One of them was making the rest of us feel wonderful and loved.

Robert and I send you our deepest and sincerest condolences, Richard. We mourn with you. Matthew was the loveliest, kindest and most generous man. We enjoyed such warm hospitality from you both,at innumerable restaurants in New York (Matthew could always be relied upon to know the best places) and not least, Matthew's superb food that memorable weekend in the Hudson Valley. His wit, warmth and kindness will be sorely missed by so many people. With love, Linda and Robert.

Oh, Richard, my heart aches for you knowing how you and Matthew loved each other and how well you fit together. Norah and I will always treasure the time we spent with Matthew and how he escorted her into the Paul Simon concert on his arm as if the music was going to be for them alone. What a grand spirit he had for life and for his work!

Matt as you all know was an amazing person. I am so grateful to have had the experience of being his friend. So much laughter. He had a way of cutting through the heavy stuff with humor. I had to laugh at my own weirdness. (Humanness).
And the food! Oh my god! I make his tomato sauce frequently (don't scrimp on the garlic and onion or the basil and oregano. And add a little cayenne he would say)
The other day I made the veggies with coconut from his Indian cookbook. I was whinning a bit about how much work and time it took and I heard his spirit say It will be worth itand it was!
Another fun memory I have was on a New Years Eve at or farm Up North in Michigan. He went upstairs and came down dressed in only a diaper and a sash. So much fun! So many stories.
Thank you Matt Bless you Richard!

I had the privilege of editing Matthew's remarkable cookbooks for teens,
Teen Cuisine and Teen Cuisine New Vegetarian, and it was a wonderful experience. Not only did I have fun testing Matthew's original recipes, but I also shadowed him as he worked with talented culinary photographer James Peterson. Matthew and I became fast friends and he will be missed, both by me and his friends in the industry but also by all those who are disciples of his amazing cookbooks.

Shortly after becoming neighbors in 2004, we met Matthew when he stopped the elevator door with his foot and waited for us to make our way down the hall and board. "You must be our new neighbors!" Soon we would learn that we were neighbors in Columbia County as well. We had unforgettable times at each others' homes, with sparkling conversation and abundant laughter. Our hearts are heavy today but Matthew's spirit and humor will again fill our days and our hearts.

Matthew is my first cousin and I will miss him terribly. We spoke to each other on our birthdays to discuss who was older...he was by 4 months! He also coached me through dinner parties using his recipes. Whenever we talked we laughed. I will miss that. Thank you Richard for being by his side all these years.

Richard my thoughts are with you. Matthew was a great guy and Bob and I always joked with him about St.Clair Shores. Sorry I can not be there with Joe but I will be thinking about you and Matt's family on Wednesday. It is my Bob's birthday. Your new journey has begun and it will be rough at first but alway remember Matthew will be in your heart forever. God bless. Tom Cunningham, Warkworth Ontario Canada.

Matthew Locricchio had one of the largest, most expansive spirits of anyone I know. He made his mark in theater, and later creating cookbooks for children. It is fitting: helping children guide to savor their appetites. My thoughts are with his family and friends, and especially Richard Farley, who was the man devotedly at the center of Matthew's life for so many years.
