Leean June (Silberstein) Colby passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 8th, 2026 at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland, Michigan. Leean was born on July 7th, 1944, to Marie Myrtle (Wymer) and Leonard Silberstein in Detroit, Michigan, where she was raised.
Leean received her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University. She used her degree working as a social worker for the State of Michigan.
She married Carl Frederick Colby on October 30, 1964. Once Carl completed his military service, they returned to the states where they had 3 children, 2 daughters and 1 son. They settled in Westland, Michigan. Every weekend possible was spent at the cottage on Big Lake in Sears, Michigan. She loved fishing, catching turtles, going for boat rides, relaxing by a fire, watching children water ski, and spending time with family. Evenings were spent playing cards long into the night. She loved animals, adopting many cats and dogs throughout the years, including Cooper and Katie, who provided her with much love and comfort in her final years.
She is survived by daughters Gail Colby (Jeff DeMoville) and Debra Colby (René Mascorro), son Mark (Taryn) Colby, her adored grandchildren Matthew and Grace DeMoville, and Jayden, Makayla, and Katelyn Mascorro, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Leean is preceded in death by her husband Carl, her parents Marie and Leonard, her Aunt Iovia, and her sister Norene (Silberstein) Sabin.
Visitation will be March 14th from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Ware Smith-Woolever Funeral Home in Midland, Michigan. A memorial service will immediately follow visitation at 1:00 PM.
