RICHMOND, IN– Lowell Robinson, age 82, passed away on March 25, 2026, leaving behind a life full of adventure, service, and a love for his family.
Lowell was born on August 5, 1943, in
Wyandotte, Michigan, to Phyllis June Thon and Leonard Wilfred Robinson. He grew up active and driven-he was a Boy Scout, played tennis, and ran track before graduating from Trenton High School. Lowell went on to attend Michigan Tech and later graduated from Eastern Michigan University.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps from April 6, 1967, to April 5, 1969, as a 2nd Lieutenant.
Lowell built a long and meaningful career, beginning with Interstate Trucking Company before joining Ford Motor Company, where he worked from 1972 until his retirement in 2003. During that time, Lowell had opportunities that became some of his greatest memories. From 1986 to 1989, he was part of the team that helped establish the Halla Climate Control plant in Korea, traveling extensively between the United States, Korea, and Japan. From 1989 to 1993, Lowell served as controller of the Ford Coclisa Plant in Juarez, Mexico, while living in El Paso, Texas-a place he truly loved, exploring throughout Mexico, New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. Lowell later served as controller of the Ford Visteon plant in Connersville, Indiana, from 1993 to 2003. He also spent time teaching business classes at Indiana University East.
Lowell had a deep love for travel and adventure. Alongside his wife and family, he explored much of the world, including Germany, Africa, Denmark, Russia, Scotland, Wales, France, Greece, Italy, Turkey, England, Mexico, China, Israel, and Egypt, as well as countless places across the United States.
Lowell was someone who showed up for his community. He participated in mission trips to the Four Corners area, volunteered with the RCS Study Buddy program, Junior Achievement in Connersville and Richmond, and served as a mentor with the Boys and Girls Club, where he especially enjoyed helping in the homework room. Lowell was a past President and Treasurer of the Richmond Golden K Kiwanis Club and a longtime supporter of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra and Civic Theatre. He also volunteered with Rock Solid Ministries.
A devoted member of Central United Methodist Church, Lowell served in many roles over the years, including usher, Staff Parish Committee member, Administrative Board member, Financial Secretary Assistant, and Annual Conference Lay Member. He was also part of the Richmond Emmaus Community.
At home, Lowell loved working in his yard-mowing, gardening, and keeping everything just right. He was an avid golfer, a former member of the Richmond Elks, and a lifelong learner with a deep interest in his ancestry. Lowell had a soft spot for cookies and root beer and never passed up a chance for an adventure-whether that meant taking one of his infamous "dirt road shortcuts", driving a jeep through the jungles of Mexico, or exploring places like an abandoned turquoise mine.
He was a proud lifetime member of the Model T Museum and, in 2023, donated his beloved Model T truck, "Bradley," to the museum.
Lowell is survived by his beloved wife of almost 59 years, Kathy; daughters, Laura Raymond (Mike), April Robinson, and Karen Fisher (Matt); grandchildren, Audrey, Kylie, and Oliver; brother, Gary; special cousin, Pat Drabant; many extended family members; and his cat, Phoenix.
Lowell will be greatly missed and forever loved. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
