Catherine Ettinger Obituary
Catherine Mary Neville Ettinger, Age 60, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 3rd, 2020 surrounded by her loved ones in Macungie, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her loving husband, Scott Ettinger, devoted sister Denise Smith, grateful children, Bryan and Laura Ettinger, and daughters-in-law Kristen Ettinger and Beth Regan. Catherine was adored by her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephew.
Catherine was born in Elmhurst (Queens), New York on June 11th, 1960 to the late Joseph Neville and Mary (Hallenbeck) Neville. Catherine attended Hicksville High School then went on to receive her bachelor's degree at Pace University. After a unique career start, including time spent as a writer for The Village Voice in New York City, Catherine found her passion for shaping young minds as a teacher. She received her master's degree in education and began her life in public service. Catherine served her community for over 20 years as a teacher for Parkland School District in Pennsylvania. She will be remembered as an educator who fostered creativity in children and acted as a fierce advocate for the rights of children and fellow educators, having spent many years as a union representative.
Catherine had a zest for life and shared her vibrance and warmth with everyone she met. Family was of the utmost importance to Catherine and she spent many hours throughout her life in the company of those she loved dearly. She had countless, deep connections with close friends and chosen family from all stages of her life.
On any given day, you could find Catherine surprising those around her as a wine connoisseur, adventurous foodie, elite shopper, political commentator, expert meteorologist, avid reader, and wordsmith extraordinaire. She believed in the healing power of music and often used her kitchen as a dance floor. She enjoyed visiting her children in Manhattan, family walks with her dog, Toby, and relaxing trips to the beach. Catherine savored every moment of life, never letting a sunny day, a good sunset or a full moon pass her by without stopping to reflect with gratitude on its beauty.
No amount of words could ever describe the rich life Catherine lived or what a truly magnificent woman she was. Catherine will be remembered as a warm-hearted, selfless soul, and her impact on the lives of those she knew is immeasurable. Catherine's last act of kindness here on earth was to pass the miracle of life on to others through her donation of vital organs. While Catherine will be dearly missed, her legacy will live on through the treasured memories and laughter of those who loved her.
Arrangements have been made to allow Catherine's family to grieve and celebrate her life privately. In lieu of flowers, etc. future donations can be made to the Catherine Mary Neville Ettinger Future Writers Fund. Fund details will be forthcoming.

Rest in peace my dear cousin, Catherine Mary. I have many sweet memories of our childhood. RC and the 3 D's were a group not to be overlooked. You have left your family and friends too soon but we are grateful for the moments shared. Much love to your husband and children as they grieve your loss deeply. There aren’t enough words that could show the uncountable family events, Love, caring, sharing that she entertain all of Us. She believed in God and God believed in her and gave her So many treasures in Life and gave her so much Sunshine and Sunflowers in her Life. Catherine was an amazing, loyal, and supportive friend. I knew I could count on her for anything at all! She was really more than a friend. She was a confidant, a soul sister, and my personal shopper. She had so much love for her family and friends. Catherine touched so many lives. Her passion for life was contagious. Whether it was her passion for teaching, music, great wine, shopping, or politics you couldn’t help but feel her excitement and commitment for the things that were important to her. As I go through pictures of all of our adventures, I know the sadness and grief I feel will be eased by the countless memories of the good times we had together. From our trip to Mexico, to holiday parties, to shopping excursions, and impromptu happy hours where we would dance around our kitchens for hours, Catherine will forever be a huge part of my life. Here’s to you my friend! I’ll have “just a splash” to celebrate your amazing life!

I miss her laughter. I miss her face lighting up when she had exciting news to share. I miss her stopping by with Toby on her way around the block. Her fabulous fashion finds and NYC tips always impressed me. To hear her joke with her students told you how much she truly cared for them. And the pride she had when talking about her family always came beaming from her face. How lucky I am to have been able to call her my friend. You will truly be missed

We were blessed to know Catherine through our daughters, both played soccer for Sienna college. We remember vividly the first time we met Catherine in the stands at Sienna when the girls were there for visitation.
We knew immediately that we would be good friends.
We have so many wonderful memories of time spent with Scott and Cathey. We will forever cherish those memories.

I first met Cathy when our daughters played soccer together in grade school. With her easy-going nature, kind heart and fun loving personality, I knew right away that we would become friends. I have very fond memories of times that we spent together and feel lucky to have known her. I will cherish the memory of her and our friendship always. She will be missed.

My earliest memories are with Cathy, Scott, Bryan, and Laura when we lived in the Poconos of Pennsylvania. Cathy was a genuine, loving person and had the ability to comfort anyone with whom she spoke to. What a beautiful tribute Laura, beautifully written. I still cannot comprehend you’re passing and my heart aches Cathy. You had so much more life to give to all those who loved you Cathy and I go way back, close to 30 years. We shared many days/evenings drinking wine, having dinners, dancing and chitchatting about the children, Brandon & Bryan.....childhood buddies & just life itself. I met Mrs. Ettinger at Fogelsville Elementary, she taught 4th grade and I was a playground aide. We had an instant connection, both New Yorkers. She was kind, always smiling and extremely friendly. I have many fond memories. She will be missed. RIP Mrs. Ettinger♥

My mother was a caring, compassionate, kind hearted woman who lit up every room she walked into. She was selfless in every meaning of the word. She was exceptional in that she could have a meaningful conversation with anyone at all, and leave that person better off for having talked with her. She will he missed immensely but will be remembered with every smile and kind act we share with one another
