Journeying Together

Carol Ann Wagner, 60, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2018 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born May 5, 1958 in Newark, New Jersey, to Carol and Richard Wagner. She attended Rota American High School in Rota, Spain and went on to travel throughout Europe and across the Straits of Gibraltar into Morocco. She studied culinary arts in New York and polymer science at the University of Southern Mississippi, achieving degrees in German and her doctorate in polymer chemistry, graduating Suma Cum Laude in 1981. She worked for DuPont for a number of years, helping in the development of dozens of patents, until retirement due to health.

A tireless seeker of knowledge, especially science and spirituality, Carol was intrigued by the World's Earth-Centered paths. She found a revered teacher in Grandmother Twyla Nitsch, on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation in N.Y. In 1994 Grandmother Twyla conferred the name of "Dayohateh" upon Carol, which means "She who shines for all," in the Seneca language. These teachings eventually drew her to the Unitarian Universalist Church where she was a respected member. Carol enjoyed making jewelry and her love for the diversity of the Native American and indigenous cultures was reflected in the bead and gemstone jewelry she created. She faced many physical and life challenges with strength in her spirituality, viewing them as stepping stones along the journey into her transcendence to the Light. When told of her late stage diagnosis, she said, "This cancer may take my body, but it doesn't have me; my spirit will soar free." She shines on.

Carol has gone on to meet her life partner, Christopher Gill. Also preceding her in death, step-father, Jerry Bobroff and brother, Stephen. She leaves memories behind with her mother, Carol Bobroff; brother, Michael Bobroff; father, Richard Wagner (Lynn); brothers, Billy and Rick; and many friends.

Carol donated her body to Northeast Ohio Medical University. When her final physical work is completed, there will be a Celebration of Life TBA in late spring, 2019.

Donations may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3300 Morewood Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333 or the charity of your choice.
