JOHN SNODGRASS Obituary

Sept 7, 1925 - March 26, 2015 ARDMORE Memorial Services for John F. Snodgrass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church, Ardmore, Oklahoma, followed by a reception at The Colvert Ministry Center. He was born to parents, John Hunt Snodgrass and Bess Gatewood Snodgrass, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, on September 7, 1925, and died peacefully at home on March 26, 2015. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, and being honorably discharged in 1945, he attended The University of Oklahoma. John and Joan Fisher were united in marriage August 18, 1948, in Oklahoma City. Following their graduation from The University of Oklahoma in 1949, John and Joan moved to Ardmore. In 1956, he and Winfred Jordan established the Jordan-Snodgrass Insurance Agency and that same year, he also formed the Central Investment Company of Ardmore with his brother, Charles. John joined the Exchange National Bank & Trust Company in 1969, where he served in the capacities of Senior Executive Officer, President and Chief Executive Officer. During his tenure, a new bank facility was constructed, which is the present day location of BancFirst. He became President and Chief Executive Officer of the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation in 1982, serving until his retirement in 1992. However, "retirement" was never in John's vocabulary, and in 1995, he assumed the role of President of Community Activities of Ardmore, Inc. One year later, he was named Trustee, President and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Oklahoma Memorial Foundation, where he served both foundations until his retirement, in 2006. Throughout his life, John served in the capacity of a director, or trustee on many boards, including Noble Corporation, Noble Energy, OGE Corporation, University of Oklahoma Foundation, Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. In 1993, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bess Snodgrass; and brother, Charles. John is survived by his wife, Joan, of the home; daughter, Virginia Sue Fernando, Ardmore, Oklahoma; daughter, Cindy Johnson and husband, Dr. Robert G. Johnson, Ocean Springs, Mississippi; daughter, Sara Snodgrass and Darla Clarke, Noble, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Kelly Spence and husband Scott; grandson, Bobby Fernando and wife Morgan; grandson, John Chase Johnson and wife Lucy; grandson, Rainey Johnson; great-grandchildren, Ian, Addison, and Rylee Spence; and Carter and Maddie Fernando. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Cross Timbers Hospice or a charity of your choice. Sara and family, I'm so sorry to hear of your father's passing. His contributions will live on. Though I've not seen you since Camp Classen, you are just one special girl that I did not forget. It does not surprise me that your father was so accomplished. We are fortunate to be blessed with such great parents. I will keep the Snodgrass's in prayer.
