CHARLES FOX Obituary

Fox, Charles Paul, of San Clemente, CA, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in La Jolla, CA. He was 72. He was born on February 12, 1942 in San Francisco, CA, to C. Warren and Helen Fox of San Francisco, CA. One of seven children, he grew up in Palo Alto and Woodside, attending Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, CA and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from the University of San Francisco with a degree in Economics and a minor in Philosophy. After university, he became an Officer in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in San Diego where he met his first wife Kim Albade, and together they moved to San Clemente where they had 3 children: Charles, Madeleine and Wallace. Charles was later re-married to Barbara Farrier. While Charles served in the U.S. Navy as an officer, he had two tours of duty to Vietnam. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 bronze stars, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation. Upon returning home, he worked for his father as a real estate appraiser, a field he worked in for more than 30-years. He served as a member of the San Clemente City Council and as the San Clemente Planning Commissioner. During his retirement years he enjoyed golfing, traveling, picking his banjo and spending time with friends and family as well as discussing history, politics and philosophy. He was an active member of the San Clemente Elks Club and the Marines' Memorial Club in San Francisco. Charles was an intelligent, thoughtful, passionate, funny, and loving son, grandfather, father, brother, husband and friend. His physical presence will be missed; however he will never be forgotten. Charles is survived by his sisters, Marcella, Antoinette, Marianne, Carolyn, Sally and Joanne; children, Charles, Madeleine and Wallace; grandchildren, Charles, Elijah, Isabella, Tatum, and Waylon. A memorial service will be held at the Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, CA. on June 12, at 11:30am. Charles was a kind and generous man who went out of his way to help those in need. Charlie was my neighbor we lived in the same building for over 12 yrs and I want his family to know your Dad was the salt of the earth type of man. He was that neighbor who you could ask to watch your place you gonna be away,he even paid a kid here to take out his trash, so the kid could have a job. I always loved seeing him he always was Happy and greeted everyone with a smile. He loved talking about his life in the Navy, being the San Clemente Planning commissioner, and especially his children, he was very proud of all of them. I miss not seeing him in the building, and now wish I would have taken the time to hear more of his stories. You were a great man Charlie and you will be missed.

I was so sad to hear that Charlie passed away. I knew Charlie from the Elks Lodge and cared for him very much. He was very good to my family when my step father passed away. He will be missed. God bless Charlie's family.

I was so sorry to hear Charlie had passed away. I met him through my husband at the Elks and enjoyed knowing him. He was kind, generous, and helped me a great deal when my husband became ill. He will be missed. God bless his family.
