Harry Collison Obituary

Collison, Sr., Harry Age 85 of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; went home to be with our lord on May 20, 2014. Harry was born in Rochester, New York on February 29, 1929. His passion for aviation started at the young age of seventeen when he obtained his private pilot's license. Harry was a Captain in the United States Air Force where he worked in cryptography. He served his country in World War II and the Korean War. After completing military service, Harry obtained degrees in physics and mathematics before beginning a lifelong career in the aerospace and electronics defense private sector. Harry spent most of his life in American defense which enabled him to travel extensively throughout the world. He was an extremely private person. As a physicist, he was deeply devoted to God and wrote passionately to his family regarding life. Harry appreciated God's work in creating the universe and many of his emails to the family included words about his love for the Holy Spirit. He was a Master Mason in the Winter Park Masonic Lodge for over 55 years. Harry loved his family, New Smyrna Beach and his friends at "The Bench". He is survived by his only child, Harry W. Collison, Jr, his daughter-in-law Mary Whitton Collison and his three grandchildren and their spouses; Taylor Collison (Elizabeth), Courtney Collins (Zandy) and Carter Collison (Julia). The family would like to thank his friends at the Colony Beach Club, his caregivers at Ridgecrest - Deland, Florida Hospital Deland ICU East and Hospice of Volusia County for the compassionate care they provided. The family is planning a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of donations or flowers, the family requests that you observe a moment of silence to honor the memory of our beloved father and grandfather.

I've had the privilege of knowing Harry for over 25 years and considered him my friend. The many hours I sat at "The Bench" with him and listened to stories of his life mean so much to me. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. I'll miss him and think of him whenever I pass "The Bench".

I spent many hours chatting with Harry at "The Bench". Many decisions were assisted by Harry's endless knowledge and prognostications. He was my friend , always entertaining with his many tales of reality and always thought outside the box. I always enjoyed watching him and Tom meet at the known to them time of day and always enjoyed some involvement in their chats
David and I will.miss Harry. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family.
God bless, David and Louise
