Dale Snider Obituary

Dale R. Snider, of Midland died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at his home after a lengthy illness.

With his wife and family, Dale enjoyed the simple pleasures of life in MidMichigan for 83 years. He was born in Ithaca on Feb. 26, 1924, to the late Rex and Edna (Martin) Snider. He graduated from Bay City Central High School and attended Bay City Junior College before entering the military in World War II. Dale was decorated for valor while serving with the U.S. Army in the European Theater. While assigned to an Automatic Weapons Battalion, he participated in the allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944 and the campaign through northern France. Returning home, he attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1949. He was employed in the marketing department of The Dow Chemical Co. before joining Chemical Bank and Trust in 1968, where he served until retiring from the position of senior vice president in 1989. Dale was a board member of several local charitable organizations during his working career and was a founding member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a member of the Midland American Legion Berryhill Post #165. His marriage to Shirley Ann Sinclair took place in Midland on Feb. 14, 1953.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Mark E. Snider of Midland, Thomas M. Snider of Austin, Texas, Carol A. VandeStreek and her husband David of Apopka, Fla. and Jane Snider of Lansing; five grandchildren, Jennifer Cannon of Greely, Colo., Nicole Snider of Austin, Texas, Kevin VandeStreek of Jacksonville, Fla., and Kurtis and Katherine VandeStreek of Apopka, Fla.; sisters Virginia Chase and Margaret Fritz; and brother-in-law Ralph Provoast. Dale was predeceased by sisters, Arlene Griffiths and Audrey Provoast; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Snider; and brothers-in-law Robert Griffiths and Harold Chase.

The Funeral Liturgy and committal service will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, March 5, 2007, from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Father Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate. Burial will take place in Midland Cemetery.

Dale's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St. on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass.
