CARLA BARRON Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

CARLA BARRON Carla Barron, born Shirley Geminder in Bronx, New York to Austrian parents Harry Geminder and Belle Ball, died Monday, June 25, 2012 at the age of 90 at her beloved home on the inlet at the north end of Palm Beach. She was in the company of her two devoted daughters, Lisbeth R. Barron, 49, and Judith L. Barron, 62. Her son, Frederick L. Ginsberg, 64, is a resident of Bronx, NY. Carla was born in 1922, one of three daughters of a tailor and a housewife (her sisters, Hilda, Florence, and Marigold pre-deceased her). She attended the prestigious Erasmus Hall School and graduated from Toms River High School in New Jersey. Throughout school, she regularly won awards for public speaking and debate, then pursued a career as a fashion model (she was known for her great beauty and charm), and ultimately spent decades in the retail fashion business. During the latter part of her career, she was part of the Evelyn & Arthur businesses here in Palm Beach. Carla married Laurens Ginsberg in Manhattan in 1947, who was part of the I. Ginsberg & Bros. leading garment house. Carla and Larry lived in White Plains, NY, but divorced in 1956. Carla married the well-respected PGA Golfer Herman Barron, in 1960. Carla and Herman lived in Scarsdale, NY, where he had been Club Pro at Fenway Golf Club for over 40 years. They came to Palm Beach in 1963 after the birth of Carla's second daughter, Lisbeth, at the request of Morris Brown, then founder of Palm Beach Country Club. Carla and Herman were members of the Palm Beach Country Club for over ten years, during which he was also Club Pro. In 1963, Herman won the PGA Seniors Championship. He was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Herman's death was in 1978. During Carla's time in Palm Beach, she continued to pursue another of her creative talents, that of being an accomplished sculptor and painter. One of her busts was donated to a major museum by prominent New York attorney James Dempsey. She was commissioned to do additional pieces for the Kasuba family, the Leibovits, and others in Palm Beach. Carla's work was often displayed at the Armory Arts Center in West Palm Beach, and she was a contributor to its charitable foundation. She was also a Dress Circle contributor to the Kravis Center and to the Palm Healthcare Foundation. She enjoyed memberships to the Palm Beach Yacht Club and the original Governor's Club. Carla was also a world traveler to China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, Morocco, and Dubai, as well as Italy, Spain, Cabo, and many parts of South America. Her greatest source of provide were the character and accomplishments of her three children. Her daughter Lisbeth attended Palm Beach Day School, Palm Beach Academy/Graham-Eckes, and Rosarian Academy, before graduating from Florida Atlantic University and Harvard Business School. Lisbeth has been an investment banker in New York for 25 years, and continues to maintain her residence at the north end of Palm Beach. Carla's daughter Judy grew up in Westchester, NY and Palm Beach, graduating from Palm Beach High School. She has been in the antique business for the past 30 years and resides in West Palm Beach. Her son Frederick lives in Manhattan and is in the retail and live events business. Carla will be forever in the hearts of her children, who will think of her and miss her every day. Services were held privately for her immediate family. Lis, Carla was one of my very first clients when I became an Allstate agent over 30 years ago. I remember coming to your home and meeting you as a teenager. I have grown very fond of you and Carla over the years. Carla will be sorely missed.
She was quite an inspiration to me.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Cathy West

Trusting in God's Promises
Comfort for your sorrow,
courage for each day,
Strength to face this journey,
His Word to light your way,
His peace to fill your heart,
although you may not understand,
And his love to hold you gently
in the hollow of His hand.
“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”-John 14:18.
With Much Sympathy,

L.B.G.
