Mary Kupferle Obituary

Rev. MARY LOUISE KUPFERLE Rev. Dr. Mary Louise Kupferle quietly passed away at her home in Gulf Stream, FL on April 17, 2001. Born in Belleville, IL, she attended public schools in Belleville and St. Louis, MO. In 1950, she attended the Unity School of Christianity, Unity Village, MO and received her ministerial credentials. In 1958, Mary and her husband moved to Lake Worth, FL, where she served as minister of Unity of Lake Worth. The church at that time was located in a small private home. Seven years later, there was a new sanctuary with a seating capacity of 500 people, a Sunday school building, and the beginnings of a Wee Wisdom Montessori School. In 1965, she accepted a position as associate minister at Unity of Delray Beach, Florida. Ultimately, Mary became the Senior Minister and brought a new sense of dedication to the progressive development of the church and its school. The school is now serving children from 18 months old to the eighth grade. In that same year, she was elected President of the Association of Unity Churches. She served as President of the Greater Delray Beach Ministerial Alliance, becoming the first woman to hold that position. She remained Senior Minister at Unity of Delray Beach for 18 years. In 1976, in tribute to her long term as minister, counselor, author, past president of the Association of Unity Churches, and member of the Executive Board and Board of Regents, she was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree by the Association of Unity Churches. She had a lifelong career as a spiritual leader and author of over 237 articles, poems and pamphlets. She also wrote six major books that are standards throughout the Unity Movement. The first, "God Never Fails", was published in 1958 and is considered a classic within the Unity movement. Other books: "God Will See You Through", "The Light Will Dawn...Through Prayer", "Trust in the Goodness of God" and "Your Help is at Hand", continue to inspire and bless many, and are distributed on a worldwide basis. Her last work, "Greater Than Anything Me" is still in the development phase. Concerning her ministry, Mary said these words; "My greatest blessings, joys, fulfillments and challenges have come as a result of being in the ministry. I wouldn't change it for any other profession in the world. The most gratifying thing I can do, and the greatest contribution I can make, is helping people." A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 1, 2003 11:00 AM at Unity of Delray Beach, 101 NW 22nd St., Delray Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to Unity of Delray Beach, or to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33407. Dearest Mary!

As a young man starting out in the Ministry you were like a rock in supporting me. Your example, your steadfastness, your Presence in the face of adversity was stellar.

The opportunities and support you offered paved the way for me to do the work I am doing today, many decades later.

Thank you for Being and blessing to many people.

In Smiles and Blessings, michael ryce
