Judith GRUBMAN Obituary

GRUBMAN, Judith Ann Murat

The family of Judith "Judy" Grubman announces her sad, untimely passing on the evening of Sunday, May 4, 2014. The family is joyful, however, that she is now with her savior, Jesus Christ, and that her passing was appropriately marked with a brilliant display of fireworks over Lake Worth, a grand tribute to a remarkable individual. Judy was born in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Helen Mitchell Mura and Colonel Romeo Mura. Her father, who had a long military career, was also a ten-goal indoor polo player. Her mother was an entrepreneur and designer, creating ornate music boxes and Christmas tree ornaments which adorned the Nixon White House Christmas tree. Judy grew up on Chicago's North Shore until she was discovered by a talent scout at a young age, leading to a successful modelling career at Eileen Ford. Her face donned the cover of many well-known, iconic women's fashion magazines, billboards, direct mail catalogs, and consumer products, in addition to being seen in television ads. Judy wed John Henry Grubman, a leading US and UK direct mail advertising executive, and left modeling to create a family. She was the mother of five children, balancing well the responsibilities that accompany parenthood while also pursuing her artistic passions in sculpture, oil painting, and jewelry design. Her studies at the Chicago Institute of Art, the New York Art Students' League, and the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach inspired her final transition into jewelry design, and spawned the creation of the "Judith Murat Fine Jewelry" collection which has been displayed in New York, Palm Beach, the Hamptons, Houston, and San Antonio. Her most recent accomplishment, a book called Judy's Journey into the Land of Murat which is a collaboration with fiance Charles L. Castor, Jr., details her personal story. In addition to being the mother of five children as well as an active artist, Judy devoted both her time and her talent to many Palm Beach and New York charities. She is survived by brother Romeo Mura; children Susan Hayes, James Grubman, Clay Grubman, April Finch, and Robin Grubman; eight grandchildren; fiance Charles L. Castor, Jr. and her loving dogs Mai Mai, Tiki and Ling Ling, all who were present at the time of her passing. Judy was a loving wife, a wonderful mother, an adoring grandmother, a good friend, a generous philanthropist, and a talented artist. She will be greatly missed but will forever in our hearts and those of her many and dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Royal Poinciana Chapel at 60 Cocoanut Row in Palm Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Network Organization or "PanCan" via their website: www.pancan.org

My sincere sympathy over Judith's passing. If I may borrow a lesson gleaned from walking in the shadow of her precious footsteps, it would be to step up to the plate to extend my sincere offer of help toward easing your burden. Please let me know what you need and how I might be of help at this time. Errand-runner, food-transporter, you name it. The shining example Judith provides us through her truly living life to the fullest, yet taking time to stop and smell the roses illuminates the amazing balance she maintained. When she discovered a need, she responded - quickly! Her torch will continue its brilliance, for she has carefully groomed many others to take a turn in carrying that torch. Thank you for YOU, Judith, for lighting the way.

Respectfully,
Pamela Stark Thomas
