Hello. My name is Dede Krenz and Mrs. Lubin was my art teacher at Arcadia High School. I graduated in 1969.
I live in Phoenix, Arizona and this evening a tv commercial aired in support of teachers, encouraging viewers to think back on their most influential teachers. I thought of Ruth Lubin.
As I went to the internet wondering if I'd find anything, I thought she must have gone long ago. I burst out crying when I saw her name and that she lived until 2008! Amazing.
And I can utterly picture her. Then I saw her picture and just as I remembered.
Mrs. Lubin taught me anything and everything I might know about art. No, I am not a professional artist, but still it's a big part of my life. She taught with love, passion and zeal, and will never forget "draw what you know, not what you see".
I know it's late to extend these thoughts. I just felt so compelled to. Mrs. Lubin was truly a great and fun person and teacher.
Best Regards,
Dede

Ruth Lubin was one of the most amazing teachers I've ever encountered. I was in her art classes at Arcadia High School from 1965-68. She had boundless energy, talent and enthusiasm. She was the first teacher to tell many of us that we could be whatever we wanted to be. She got in touch with me in the mid 90's & she shared her poetry and hopes for winning the Senior Ms America contest...
Thank you, Ruth. I will never forget you!

I'm so sorry to hear about Ruth's passing. I remember her well, I was a student at Arcadia High School (1964-1967) but didn't have her as my art teacher. Several friends did though. Visited her a few times at her home years later... Always was a wonderfullly entertaining and interesting person to be around. She was a profound influence on many of her students and will be greatly missed. I will always remember her fondly.
