carmela dietzel Obituary

DIETZEL, Carmela, Marchese

Carmela Marchese Dietzel, December 27, 2017 succumbed after a short illness, acute Myelogenous Leukemia.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio - October 31, 1925, daughter of Vincent and Theresa Macaione.
She is survived by her husband, Karl Dietzel, a son, Charles Marchese, a grandson, Nicky Marchese, a granddaughter, Gioia Prince, a great grandson Cosmos Prince, three nieces, Andrea Hobson, Denise Sutter, Janett Zancransky, a sister-in-law, Kathy Jo Macaione, the widow of Carmela's brother, Anthony Macaione.
Carmela a gifted singer, an accomplished artist whose works (signed "Marchese") grace the walls of homes, offices and galleries from coast to coast, but mainly in the west.
In addition to painting and singing, Carmela had many other interests. She was a gourmet cook who loved to entertain and kept a log for years showing the names of guests and the food she served. She was a licensed dealer in antiques, owned a collection of dolls, loved flowers, gardening, dogs, crossword puzzles, dancing, and reading. She even tried to open and run a candy store, which did not work out. Carmela with her husband, bought houses, she applied the Carmela touch, then sold them at a profit. This did work! Her friendly, outgoing personality helped her in all phases of her life.
At age 18, she married a man many years her senior against her parent's wishes. That marriage ended in a divorce after 13 years. Her second marriage lasted 34 years when death claimed her spouse.
On May 4th, 2001, Carmela age 75 and Karl age 83 were married. That was certainly the autumn of their lives. Carmela prayed that she be granted 10 years to care for him. She got 16 years, but the care giving roles were reversed. Her dependency on him grew to a point she prayed she would walk out of this life before he did. Both prayers were answered.
Carmela took much pleasure in the belief that an owner of one of her paintings could enjoy it for a lifetime and pass it on to heirs. That belief was proven to be correct when she recently attempted to buy back one of her early paintings from an estate. The family would not sell.
In the last couple of years, owners of paintings acquired thirty and forty years ago contacted her to express thanks and appreciation for enriching their lives. That is a morale booster.
Though her voice is still, brushes inactive, creativity curtailed, her paintings remain a beautiful, lasting testimonial and legacy. A memorial service will be private.
In lieu of flowers, those so inclined may wish to consider donating in her memory to:

I met Carmela when i was 23 and she was 35...both living in Santa Monica, Ca. She soon introduced me to a young US Army Capt by the name of H. Norman Schwarzkopf (yes, the future leader of the first gulf war ) who had just purchased one of her paintings...It was the beginning of a life-long friendship. Many happy hours of laughter, singing, dancing, games, holiday celebrations, family dinners, theater/ ballet and opera dates , road trips (Carmel, Palm Spring, Las Vegas and oh, so much more. BEAUTIFUL TIMES shared with Mike and Carmela. God bless you beautiful lady!

Each day I admire the painting Ms. Marchese created that hangs in my home. And I recall with fondness the dinner party she gave for my husband and me. May she rest in peace with the Lord.

My condolences goes out to the family. It is so wonderful to see he lived a long and full life but even then it hurts to see loved one go. Just as her paintings serve as a reminder of her talent and beauty, God also will vividly keep Carmela in his memory, because she is precious in his eyes, Psalms 116:15. May your fond memories of Carmela bring you comfort in this time of sadness.
