RICHARD SMOLIN
Richard passed away at his home in Smith, Nevada on Monday evening, August 14, 2017. He was 69.
Richard was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 21, 1948 the son of Gerard and Gloria (West) Smolin.
He had lived in Smith, NV for the past 5 years coming from Southern California. He was a falconer, scholar, artist, musician, lawyer, general contractor, father, husband, brother, son, uncle, poet and logician. He loved to play his guitar and sing songs to his children to put them to sleep. On top of all that, he and his father bravely risked their lives and freedoms to stand up for the right to be a father. He was also the smartest goofball and politically obsessed fruitloop that family respected more than anyone in the world. Anyone who spent time with him always walked away in lighter spirits and found many things to laugh at, even if it were him. His gentle heart, warm spirit and infectious sense of humor will be sorely missed.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sandra Brumund-Smolin of Smith, NV; son, Jamie Smolin of San Diego; daughter, Jennifer Schlax of Redlands; brother, Rod Smolin of San Diego, step-brother, Nicholas Gutierrez of Oxnard, step sisters, Lorraine Lopez of Huntington Beach and Yvonne Villacencio of San Bernardino; and three grandchildren, Riley Bushong, Keaton and Rory Schlax. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life service which will be held at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, August 30th at the Mission Inn, 3649 Mission Inn Avenue, Riverside, CA 92501.
