Julianna Horn Obituary

Juliana Elizabeth

Horn

1950-2017

Juliana E. Horn passed away on April 5, 2017 at age 66. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Wayne, her mother Violet I. Esfakis, her sisters Diana, Leandra and Marina Esfakis, her brother Andrew Esfakis of Nassau and Eleuthera, Bahamas, her niece Shannon Quarrier, great nephew Nathan Quarrier, cousin Anne (Al) Hargis, and Scott, Sidney (Lynn) and Skyler Hargis, and extended family in the USA, Canada and Greece.

She was pre-deceased by her father, Dr. Andrew Esfakis and her brother Christopher R. Esfakis, of Nassau Bahamas.

Juliana leaves behind many loyal and special friends in the Pensacola area, [JIBB -Juliana's International Barn Buddies], including Sherry Key, Stephanie Friedman, Cheryl Wood, Char Dove, Nicole Eagle, Brenda Foreman, Kadisha Onalbayeva & Mike Coleman, Walter & Medora Mullins, Sue Verenholt, and Danise Beadle.

Juliana was born in Nassau Bahamas and came to the USA to attend college. She met her husband Wayne and was married in 1971. She earned her Associate Degree at Pensacola Junior College, and Bachelor's degree at University of West Florida. She worked at the Pensacola Historical Museum, and later taught at Catholic High School. She substituted for many years teaching mathematics at Tate High School and Pine Forest High School. She was a choir member of St. Monica's Episcopal Church.

Juliana was an avid horse woman, active in the Five Flags Arabian Horse Association. She was a founding member of the Santa Rosa County Mounted Posse. She taught riding to young people and coached a drill team at the Leaning Post Ranch. In the words of a young friend, "Juliana has been a wonderful teacher, amazing mentor and dear friend, not only for me, but for the many lives she touched through the years, both human and horse."

Juliana was always prepared to help students and young people, never forgetting to visit older friends and family.

Juliana had a love of the ocean. As a student she was a member of the PJC Sailing Club. In later years she joined an oceanographer friend to help with marina minerals research at Johnson Atoll, and a cephalopod ecology cruise in the Hawaiian Islands. They explored the Galapagos and the Samoan islands together.

She loved swimming and snorkeling in the waters around the Bahamas and Crete.

Juliana was also active with Pensacola Little Theatre for many years.

For years Juliana & Wayne hosted exchange students and teachers from Bahamas, Germany and Britain, and made lasting friendships.

Juliana traveled widely with her husband Wayne, family and friends to many parts of the world. She loved to help her cousin Lena with her olive groves in Crete, reconnect with family and friends in the U.S.A., Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Germany, Canada and Greece, and enjoy opportunities to discover new places.

Juliana cared much and gave generously of her time, effort and knowledge to all who knew her. She met the challenges of her recent illness with dignity courage and faith.

May her memory be eternal.

Julianna was an exceptional mentor to my children in pony club and a teacher for me regarding horses and set an example of how to live. I dearly miss her.

Here it is .....anniversary of Juli's passing. I say passing as I think of it being better than the word 'gone'. Still missing you and wondering what fields you have been passing through and experiencing. Any saddle sores yet? Just joking and I know you were fond of jokes, and huge on laughter. Many thoughts and many prayers going you way, Laurie Neeb

I met Julianna at Creekside. I never really knew her but I could tell how truly special and loved she was, by the multitude of family and friends who were constantly at her side. All of us would be blessed to have lived a life to warrant the care and love Julianna received. Rest in Peace Julianna and my condolences to everyone she left behind.

I spent time in the summers with Julianna as a kid, trail riding and participating in whatever fun horse activities she had going on. I owe so much of my horsemanship skills to her, and she even spent one summer deciphering for me the middle school math that I was struggling with. She taught me the trick to wearing those long sleeve cotton shirts on trail rides, the importance of an afternoon siesta, and that there is always room for another dog, or horse, or whatever you may find along the way. You will be missed, Julie.

what a beautiful person friend and mentor. I cannot begin to express the person that she is and how much I will miss her. I know we have an angel looking over us and there will be a strong voice saying where is your helmet.

Julianna's attitude toward horses -- and life -- kept the rest of us grounded. She was out there to have fun, and she would just grin and go. She always volunteered for the horse show jobs no one else wanted, like assembling and dismantling the dressage rings. I will miss Julianna and remember her for her humor and the joy she took in life.
