Irvin Lloyd Obituary

Untitled IRVIN C. LLOYD
Nov 9, 1926-Dec 1, 2009

On 1 December 2009, Irvin C. Lloyd, our beloved husband, father, and friend left his earthly journey to be with his Lord in Heaven. He was born on Nov 9, 1926 to Clee and Katharine Ross Lloyd in Longford, KS. He grew up through the Depression, which forever instilled a sense of thrift and appreciation for hardship.
Irvin graduated from Clay Center High School, Clay Center, KS in 1945 and entered the US Navy, serving in the Pacific on the USS Tranquility and as part of the Occupation of Japan forces. He returned from military service and entered the school of Landscape Architecture at the University of Wisconsin graduating in 1950. On October 14, 1950 he married Laurie A. Nuesse of Turtle Lake, WI and celebrated 59 years of marriage this year.
Irvin started with the U.S. National Park Service in 1953 at the Natchez Trace Parkway in Mississippi, and worked in Acadia (Maine), Glacier (Montana) national parks and in the regional headquarters in Richmond, VA during his career. He transferred to the Federal Highway Administration in Portland, Oregon in 1966 retiring from Federal service in 1990 after a 37 year career. He went on to a consulting role with OTEK Corp. and HDR Engineering on highway and environmental projects for several more years. In 2000, Irvin and Laurie moved to Florida to enjoy a warmer climate and be closer to family.
Irvin enjoyed flying as a private pilot, skiing, hiking, traveling in the U.S. and many years in the Lion's Club organization. During his retirement years, he became an accomplished gardener and could get any plant to flourish. He was an active member in the Navarre Presbyterian Church and held a deep faith in his Lord, offering a helping hand to many others over his lifetime.
Irvin is survived by his wife, Laurie; son Clee Lloyd (Connie) of Portland, OR; daughter Andrea Short (Michael) of Navarre, FL and grandchildren, Kirsten Lloyd, Aaron Lloyd, Christopher Short and Kathryn Short.
The family suggests that remembrances be given to the individual's charity of choice or that a tree be planted in his memory.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, 28 December 2009 at 11:30 AM at the Navarre Presbyterian Church, Navarre, FL.
