Tom Shipley was not only my dissertation chair, but a kind, insightful, and supportive mentor whose guidance was invaluable and will always be appreciated. He had a terrific, wry sense of humor and he was truly like a loving grandfather to me. I was deeply saddened to learn of his death and know that he will be greatly missed by all. My thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. But please know that Tom made this world a better place by his myriad good deeds and that I am a better person for having known and loved him.
