SOUDERS


DEBORAH PEARL. Well known artist and teacher, and beloved wife, mother and grandmother died suddenly on October 4, 2011. Born in Philadelphia on August 20, 1946, she moved with her family to Frederick, Maryland in 1960 where she graduated from Frederick High
School. Coming from a family of artists, she went on to earn a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from Towson University. Debby had a successful career as a nationally recognized artist beginning in Frederick and continuing in Philadelphia where she spent the last six years of her life. Ms. Souders has been the recipient of many awards and participated in invitational exhibitions such as The Chatauqua National and The Maryland Museum and Gallery Exhibition in Baltimore. Her work has been acquired by a number of corporations. She has shown widely and has work in two museum collections as well as the collection of the Reserve Bank in Richmond, VA. She was also a dedicated teacher, educating students at academic institutions and in community workshops in Maryland and Pennsylvania In Maryland, she was an instructor at the Maryland Institute College of Art, the University of Maryland, as well as Frederick and Montgomery Community Colleges. In Pennsylvania, she has taught at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, the Woodmere Art Museum, and at several art centers and community colleges in the greater Philadelphia area. She is survived by her husband Michael Souders of Chestnut Hill, son Ian Twentey of New Market, MD, daughter Brea Souders of New York City, grandsons Aidan and Elliot Twentey, as well as her sister Rebecca Pearl Zeigler and mother Elizabeth Prongas of Rocky Ridge, MD, aunt Grace Routzahn of Frederick, cousin David Pearl of Philadelphia and
niece Sarah Orner of Baltimore. A memorial celebration of Debby's life and art will be announced at a later date.
