MICHAEL McNAMARA Obituary

McNAMARA
MICHAEL A.

59, on January 11, 2017, enjoyed business success, satisfying personal pursuits, and a loving family, died recently after a courageous two year battle with lymphoma. At the time of his death, Mr. McNamara was the Chief Operating Officer of Hyde Leadership Charter School in the South Bronx, the poorest Congressional district in the country.
Mike graduated from St. Luke's School in Glenside, Abington High School, Penn State University, and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a true scholar-athlete, combining academic excellence with similar athletic achievement.
He began his professional career as an analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia then accepted a position with ARA Services. He relocated his family to Denver when he was appointed CFO of Children's World. Mike devoted himself to his growing family of three children, and explored a variety of business ventures. He purchased a share in a vineyard in western Colorado and several local businesses in the Denver area. Although Mike and his family enjoyed skiing at Copper Mountain, Colorado, he never forgot his Philadelphia roots. He spent every summer at his absolute favorite spot, his home in Long Beach Island, N.J. As part of a very close family of ten children, he returned often to celebrate holidays and shore vacations with his siblings and large extended family. Mike had a life-long love of music, with Saturday mornings devoted to jazz and Sunday's filled with classical music.
He relocated to New York City in 2010 when he joined the Hyde School.
Mike is survived by his three children; Harry of Brooklyn, NY; Lucy of San Francisco, CA; and Michael of Los Angeles, CA and their Mother and Mike's dear friend, Diane Mayer of Denver CO, as well as eight siblings, James (Sharon), William (Mary), Robert (Karen), Gerald (Mary), Patrick (Kristin), Joseph (Joan), John (Anne Cary) McNamara and Rosemary (John) McDonough). His brother Thomas died in 1985 (survived by his wife Betty Ann). The family would also like to recognize Mike's good friend, Deborah Dumont, for her care and attention throughout Mike's illness.
Funeral Mass Monday 11:00 A.M. Church of St. Luke the Evangelist, 2316 Fairhill Ave. (at Easton Rd.), Glenside PA 19038. Mac-
I still remember the first conversation we had, and knowing that I wanted to work for you and I'd learn alot from you. Indeed I was correct. I can't say how grateful I am to have known you. ~ Leiya, Former Co-worker at Hyde

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of Michael McNamara. We only met him once at LBI but over the years we spent time with his children and Diane, when we visitied my son David and daughter in law Jenny Mayer. He has wonderful children so I know he was a good man.

Please know that our thoughts are with you all.

Mike will be remembered as our very much loved son-in-law. We had a mutual love of Long Beach Inland where we shared a duplex. His devotion to our grandchildren, caring personality and generosity was very much enjoyed and appreciated. We spent many hours playing cards, games on the beach and barbecues. he will leave a void in our family that will not be able to be filled.

Rest in Peace, Mike. You will be in our memory, thoughts and prayers. Love, Mom and Dad
