Donna Hitt Obituary
Chesapeake - Donna Oakley Hitt, 66, went home to be with the Lord on June 10, 2014. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend to many. A native of Richmond, she was predeceased by her father, Leslie W. Oakley, Jr. Donna was a graduate of Radford College and received her master's degree from Old Dominion University. She retired after teaching elementary school for thirty years; Mechanicsville, VA from 1970-72, Seoul Foreign School in South Korea from 1972-73, Holland, VA from 1973-74, John Tyler in Portsmouth from 1974-75, and E.W. Chittum in Chesapeake from 1985-2010. Donna was a member of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald D. Hitt; mother, Muriel Dickens Oakley of Portsmouth; daughter, Jennifer Jeffries of Portsmouth; son, Justin Hitt of Portsmouth; and two grandchildren, Taylor and Hailey Jeffries.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 13, at 2 PM in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Suffolk, by the Rev. H.B. Jackie Allen. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-7:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson Memorial Baptist Church. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com

Death separates us temporarily from our loved ones here on this earth but if we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He has done to conquer death we know we will be reunited in heaven. Donna was a great sister-in-law, wife to my brother, mother to Jennifer and Justin, grandmother to Taylor and Hailey, and daughter to her parents. I will miss her smile, her laughter, and her listening ear. I will look forward to being reunited in heaven. Praying for all of you my family and miss being there with you. Love, Diane

Ron,
so shocked to hear about Donna tonight, and sorry i am not able to attend her service. I will always remember the friendship we shared as next door neighbors thru our teens. (We sat in her den for days starring at the tv when JKF died, trying to understand the why.) The joy of marrying Mr. Right and the fondness for each other's parents.
I am so glad life brought us together and our gatherings, while too infrequent were always dear and just like ole times....a true sign of a special friendship.
Our love and sympathy to you, Jennifer,Justiin, Ms Oakley and the grandchildren....
