CHILLICOTHE - Alexis N. Encinas, 16, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at her home in Chillicothe.
She will be remembered as a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and friend.
Alexis was born on Jan. 1, 1999, in Peoria to David and Cara (Gueber) Encinas. She attended schools in Chillicothe during her childhood and was currently enrolled at IVC High School as a sophomore.
Since childhood, she loved to dance, and participated in ballet as well as IVC's poms. She played the flute and was in both the marching and concert band.
Alexis excelled at academics and school and was about to be inducted in the French National Honor Society. She worked diligently at her schoolwork and, to her family's pride, was an honor student. She played as a member of the Chillicothe Rugby Football Club's Cailini team and worked part-time at Panera Bread Co. in Peoria.
Alexis loved anything to do with animals and nature, especially her African gray parrot, Glenda. She had a passion for volunteering, including spending her time as a tutor for other students.
She is survived by her parents; her brother, Zeke Encinas of Chillicothe; her paternal grandmother, Kay Dawson of Peoria; her maternal grandmother, Helen (Earle) Brown of London Mills; Aunt Lori (Bob) Bushell and their children, Adam and Kyle of Chillicothe; Aunt Terri (Charles) Erwin and their children, Charles Jr., Cayhen and Christina of Texas; Uncle Michael (Lena) Encinas and their children, Eric, Jeremy and Olivia of California; Uncle Karl (Jennifer) Gueber and their children, Madison, Grace and Lani of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Uncle Rob Brown and his son, Colby of Maquon; Uncle Mike Brown and his children, Ryan, Brandon and Rachel of Gurnee; Aunt Debi (Todd) Brown and their children, Josiah and Bethany of Deltona, Fla.; Uncle Kevin (Molly Vrabel) Ludolph and their children, Lexi, Logan, Luke and Landen of Chillicothe; Uncle Mark (Sheila) Ludolph and their children, Sam and Olivia of Dunlap; Aunt Miriam (Bob) Hartung of Bradenton, Fla., and their children, Richard and Pam of Toronto, Ontario; as well as cousins from Florida, William, Charlie, Clara, Theresa, Miriam, Michelle, Mary Rose and their families.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Esequiel Martinez, and maternal grandfather, Larry Gueber.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with Alexis' family from 2 until 6 p.m. today, April 26, 2015, at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, with Pastor Adam Jamsa. Burial will follow in Chillicothe City Cemetery.
The family requests memorials in Alexis' honor to be made to either her mother, Cara, or father, David.

My sweet Alexis. You left a lasting impression on me and you will always be a light in my life. I'm so blessed that I was one of your teachers and was able to share music with you. We have so many wonderful memories laughing and harmonizing. Alexis loved to sing and her love and passion for music and animals was a special bond that we shared. I will always miss you and you will always be a part of my heart, beautiful girl. So much love to all of her family and friends during this difficult time. May her light always shine within you.
