Dorothy Devitt Boswell June 19, 1944 - March 15, 2016 Poway After many years of struggling with various health issues, Dorothy Devitt Boswell passed away on March 15, 2016, at the age of 71, in Poway, California. She was born June 19, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Russell Ernest Devitt and Helen Maacah Devey.Dorothy graduated from South High School, SLC, UT, where she played the violin and was the concert mistress of the orchestra, and drill mistress of the pep club. She earned her Bachelor's Degree at the University of Utah in Home Economics Education and taught several years in Utah and Santee High School, San Diego, CA. She married Stephen R. Boswell in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, June 28, 1965, and later divorced.Her skills and love of decoration were clearly evident in her inviting, organized home. She shared these skills with others. She was generous, giving what she could to others. An avid Charger football fan, she never missed a game. TV was her friend, companion, entertainment and connection to what was happening in the world. Playing a challenging game of cards, was one of her favorite activities. Her greatest joy was talking on the phone with Bonnie and her grandchildren, and they made sure it happened often. Dorothy loved having visitors! She formed treasured friendships with many who so willingly cared for her doctors, nurses, aides, relatives and friends. Members of her LDS church spent endless hours visiting, transporting and serving Dorothy in countless ways. She appreciated everyone who helped her.She is survived by loving daughter, Bonnie Boswell Diaz, and son-in-law, Joel Diaz of Brisbane, CA; grandchildren, Solana and Coral Diaz; brother, Robert (LaRee) Devitt; sister, Joan (Tom) Lewis; sister, Peggy Devitt, who watched over Dorothy many years; nieces and nephews: Melissa, Rob, Shalisse, Mike, Natalie; and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by parents; her beloved son, Matthews W. Brown II, who died December 16, 1982, at the age of 8 in Poway, CA.Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at 11:00 am at LDS Chapel, 14211 Twin Peaks Rd. Poway, CA.
