Clarence Stephens

1928 - 2021

Clarence Stephens (the Old Man) was born in Bearden, Arkansas to Willie and Bell Stephens on May 26, 1928. He joined Hopewell Baptist Church in Pine Bluff. He moved to Gary, Indiana in 1946. A hard worker at Youngstown Steel, "Youngblood" received Pro of the Year Award. He retired on January 1, 1990. Married twice (Marie Howell/Doris Jelks), he bore seven children and gained three more children from the marriages. He was fond of cards and especially bowling. In September 2001, he bowled 300 and was inducted into the Nationwide Black Bowlers Hall of Fame. He departed on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. Preceded in death by parents, wife (Marie), daughters (Marietta, Irma Jean), and sisters (Willie Bell Caudle, Mae Helen Roberson). Cherished by wife of 43 years (Doris); children: Deloris, Randy, Clarence Edward (Marilyn), Norma Kay, Paul, Angela, Kevin (Tamara), David (Trevine), Anita (Elias); twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, relatives, and friends. Visitation Friday February 26, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 1:00 p.m. All Services at the Guy & Allen Chapel. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.
