NICHOLAS JORDAN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 14, 2012.
JORDAN NICHOLAS JOSEPH, Sr. (GIORDANO)
Of Clairton, on November 13, 2012, at the age of 96, departed this realm to join his wife of 58 years, Victoria Mary Anne Speranza, and their first born son, Nicholas Joseph Jordan, Jr., who passed over in 1998 and 2001, respectively. Mr. Jordan's parents were Dominic and Francesca (Nero) Giordano, who immigrated to the United States from Calabria, Italy at the turn of the century and, subsequently, became citizens of the United States. Mr. Jordan was preceded in passing by six siblings, Grace (Guiseppe) Pazienti, Angelo (Julia), Joan (John) Stokes, Lawrence (Mary), Dominic (Jackie), and Catherine (Walter) Mann. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Jordan served in France, Germany, and Italy under General George C. Patton with the 793rd Military Police Battalion with the rank of Sergeant. After being decorated with a Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, he was honorably discharged on July 14, 1946 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. After working for more than 40 years at U.S. Steel in Clairton, Mr. Jordan retired from the Accounting Department at the age of 62. He enjoyed gardening and keeping active by shoveling snow and cutting grass for himself and his neighbors. More than anything, Mr. Jordan loved encouraging people and telling stories of his childhood, the war years, and adventures in maintaining his homes and those of his sisters. He was ingenious when it came to making his own tools and performing a two-man job singlehandedly. He learned many skills and crafts from his co-workers in "the mill" over the years and, with his "can-do" attitude, put them all to good use. He is admired for his sense of fairness, honesty, and thoughtfulness. Mr. Jordan was an active member of St. Clare's Roman Catholic Church for many years. Mr. Jordan is survived by the spouse of his first born son, Nicholas (Jean Gazda) Jordan; and three surviving children, David Michael (Georgia) Jordan of Elmira, NY, Joanie (Bob) Jordan-Bonaddio of Ross Township, and Vivian Joyce (James) Pishok of Carroll Township. Mr. Jordan loved and enjoyed his many grandchildren (Michael Dominic, Teresa Lynn, Nicole Marie, Alex Nelson, Christopher David, Matthew K., and Nicholas M.); great- grandchildren (Ashley, Angelina, Nicholas, Jordan Marie, Meghan Claire, Dominic Alexander, Gianna Marie, and Sofia Bella); and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the A.J. BEKAVAC FUNERAL HOME, 555 Fifth St., Clairton, PA 15025 (412-233-5700), on Thursday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 460 Reed Street, Clairton, PA 15025 at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Following mass, a service will be held and interment will take place at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Pleasant Hills. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the following organizations: St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 460 Reed Street, Clairton, PA 15025, and, Rebuilding Clairton Together (RCT) (www.myclairton.com; [email protected]), 13 Wellington Woods Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15229-1177. Donations to RCT benefit Clairton Park's Memorial Hill, which is dedicated to the service and memory of World War I and II veterans. Please write Nicholas J. Jordan, Sr. on the memo portion of your check.

I am so sorry for the passing of your wonderful dad. He was and still is a great man. He made me laugh many times down the garage. He didn't care for the dogs too much...ha..(rottweillers) but he stood his ground. I know my dad loved him very much. I'm going to miss seeing him, but I know I'll see him again....the group is together. I'll keep you guys in my prayers. Love to all.

Dear David, Joanie and Vivian,

I am sorry to hear about your father. He was a great guy. I have many fond memories of talking with him while he waited for your mother down at my dad's office. We had some great conversations!
Not a Christmas goes by without me thinking of your mother. She made the best pizzelles!
Your parents were both very special to all of us Rascatis! We will never forget them!
I wish I could be there for you this week, but am traveling. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers!

OMG, I sit here with tears in my eye's after learning the fate of Nick Jordan Sr. Nick was a rare person, I always looked forward to seeing him even though I knew he was going to chew me out or kick my butt for something, "Angelo, your putting on too much weight" etc. I loved him, he truly was a very special person. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
My Deepest Condolence.
