Lisa Hess Obituary

Lisa Hess

Iowa City - Lisa Hess passed away on October 31, 2018 of breast cancer at home with friends and family.

Born in Chicago and growing up in Minnesota, Lisa graduated from Reed College in Portland, Oregon in 1986. After working as a cell biology researcher and nuclear medicine technologist, Lisa earned a medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences Medical School in Portland, Oregon, and afterwards trained in Indianapolis and Iowa City as an Ob/Gyn.

She was a partner in OB-GYN Associates in Cedar Rapids for two decades and truly treasured caring for her patients of all ages and walks of life. She was a compassionate, curious, and knowledgeable physician who advocated for the rights of the women for whom she cared. She became a mother of twins while a resident at the University of Iowa; and enjoyed the challenges and joys of raising a family.

True to her principles, steadfast in her integrity, and humane in her quirky sense of humor, she will be remembered as a caring mentor, avid cyclist, awesome mom, graceful survivor, and tenacious friend.

She is survived by her husband Rob Piper; sons Sam and Max; brother Demian Hess of Bethesda, Maryland; mother Valerie Lee of Minneapolis; and father Jeffrey Hess of Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Donations in her memory should be sent to Planned Parenthood.
