Conover, Seely J.

On September 16, 2014, Seely J. Conover passed from the pain and suffering of this world into the realm of Heaven and is now with those who have gone before. He was born on October 13, 1917 to Frank and Sadie Conover. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Eleanor; his son, Ronald; his grandson, Micha; and his brothers, Paul and David. He is survived by his second wife, Joanne Ballard and her family; his son, Marvin and Donna Conover; his daughter, Linda and Michael Strope; his daughter in law, Georgia Conover; his grandchildren, Matthew Conover and his fiancée, Annette Harkness, Darrin and Shelley Conover, Bryan and Alana Strope, and Derek and Jen Strope; his great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Caleb, Jared, Arielle, Alexis, Allison, and Katie; his great-great-grandchildren, Julius and Xavier. Seely was born in Ames, NY and grew up in Frankfort, NY. He graduated from Frankfort High School. Over the course of his career, he was employed by Remington Rand, McFarland as a surveyor in the early 1950s and worked on the New York State Thruway that runs through the Mohawk Valley, Ozalid and Link Aviation as a draftsman. Seely was a longtime member of Glen Castle United Methodist Church, he loved jazz and big band music, studying history, camping, bowling and building. A house in Ilion and a catamaran are among the things he designed and built. No matter how big or small the job, he always sat down and designed it first. He was also an accomplished trumpet player starting when he was 11 years old. He played in the Remington Rand Band, Three Notes Combo, Senior Sounds, and RSVP. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, and his love for his family, his country and God. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Binghamton General Hospital for the compassionate care shown to Seely during his stay there. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson with Pastor James Collins officiating. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday at Chenango Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
