Robert Savo Obituary

Savo, Robert (Bob)

Robert (Bob) Savo, 93, of Binghamton, died peacefully on February 5th after a long illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Dario and Mary Savo; and brother, Theodore. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Florence; son, Robert and wife, Christina of Shelby Township, MI; daughters, Rita Grenchus (Edward) of Vestal and Teresa Benson (Michael) of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Nicholas (Maggi) Savo of Austin, TX, Gina Savo of Chicago, IL, Jennifer Grenchus, Vestal, and Gabrielle Grenchus of New York City; great-granddaughter, Eva Marie Grenchus, Vestal; brother, Ernest (Angela) Savo, Binghamton; sister-in-law, Teresa Savo, California; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton. Robert worked for Link Aviation for 43 years where he held many positions until he retired in 1986 as Manager of Flight Simulator Assembly, Shipment, and Installation. He worked directly with Ed Link, founder of Link Aviation, on many projects. He was a gifted woodworker who designed and built his own home 59 years ago. He was a wonderful musician who played the trumpet and an avid NY Giants fan and season ticket holder. His other love was the New York Yankees. His other favorite pastime was golf and he belonged to the Senior League at Ely Park. Bob and Florence spent 27 years wintering in Fort Lauderdale, FL where they enjoyed retirement. Special thanks to Laura Rosics, who helped Florence care for Bob this past year at home, and also to the wonderful staff of Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (Second Floor Memory Unit) for the care and support these last few weeks. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Friday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Bob may be made to St. Patrick's Church Restoration Fund, 9 Leroy St., Binghamton, NY 13905.

Dear Florence and the Savo family.
I was very fortunate to have two of the best neighbors anyone could ever have.
Bob was one of the best residents any community could possibly have. Bob could not remain idle for any reason.
He was like a building inspector when our roofs were being replaced. He rebuilt the pool area after a destructive hurricane.
Our city building department knew they had a contender to deal with.
Thank you Bob, we miss you.
I wish you could tell us what God has you working on in heaven.

I am so sorry to hear that Bob has died. I have many fond memories of Bob from the Link days. He was always so helpful to me and after retirement to see him visiting next door with Ed and Rita. It was a pleasure knowing Bob. Our sincere condolences to all the family.

Dear Florence,
Peter, Courtney and I have such fond memories of the times we shared with you and Bob at Eddie and Rita's. We particularly remember many times when all the Savo girls(you, Rita, Jenny and Gabby) would roll their eyes having heard Bob's funny stories many times before, but we were so blessed to share in your family's many happy times with him. We will miss him.
