Albert Blazicek Obituary

Blazicek, Albert (Al)

Kirkwood: Albert (Al) Blazicek, age 84, of Kirkwood passed away Monday evening, February 14, 2011, at Willow Point Nursing Home where he resided for the past one and a half years. He was predeceased by his parents, nurmerous brothers and sisters, and his sister-in-law. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeannette (Willow Point Nursing Home); two sons, Tracy (Patty), Conklin, Robert (partner Sally Carvin), Kirkwood; granddaughter Brittney Blazicek, Towson, MD; brother-in-law, Simon Williams, Johnson City; special nephew, Tony Williams (partner Susan O'Keefe) Mechanicsburgh, PA; niece, Mary (Art) Carbonara, Birmingham, AL; great-niece, Pam (Mike) Hojnoski, Windsor; and great-great-nephews, Andrew and Christopher Hojnoski. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving his country in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following the war he earned a degree in Electrical Technology from Harper College and had a long career in the flight simulation industry working for Link Flight Simulation and Singer-Link. He loved to fish and enjoyed spending time at his log cabin on his property in Kirkwood. He also enjoyed his weekly trips to Turning Stone Casino with his wife and watching his granddaughter compete in sports. And until he moved to Willow Point, he spent at least part of every day "out back working on the firewood". Al had a heart as big as the world and made of solid gold. He was a friend to everyone he met. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Willow Point Nusing Home, particularly the nurses and aids on South Three who took such wonderful care of him. Funeral services with full Military Honors will be held 6:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011, at the Savage Funeral Home, 338-344 Conklin Ave, Binghamton, NY 13903 with Rev. Dann Travis officiating. Mary and I are so sorry for you loss. I know you loved your Dad very much and it really showed. I was also so impressed with the obvious care he took in cutting fire wood for us, all the exact same size. Such care for detail! We are in Buffalo this weekend and can't attend the service, but our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Rob & Tracy--

I am so sorry to hear about your father. I last saw him and your mother at Willow Point Nursing Home in November 2009. He was always such a pleasant and patient person. I know we often put that to the test as teenagers. Please know that you are in my thoughts.
