Anne Smith Obituary

Anne (Repinecz) Smith
of Vestal
Anne (Repinecz) Smith, 86, went peacefully to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 31, 2008. She was born October 25, 1921 in Whiting, Indiana. Anne was predeceased by her devoted husband of 66 years, Gurdon E. Smith, Deposit, N.Y.; by her parents, Julia Stetz Repinecz and John Repinecz, Sr., Endicott; a sister, Julia Croman; and two brothers, John Repinecz and Michael Repinecz, Sr. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Gerald Szachara, Vestal; three treasured grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Susan Szachara, Kendall Park, N.J., Miriam Anne and Keith Purdy, Binghamton, and Gerry and Deborah Szachara, Bridgewater, N.J.; a great-grandson, Adam Joseph Szachara; and great-granddaughter, Rachel Anne Szachara; and many dearly loved nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. Anne was raised in Endicott, N.Y. by parents with a strong faith, who first came to Ellis Island, USA from Kochino at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. Anne put that seed of love for Christ into her family. She was known for being a gifted artist along with her husband. Both won many awards. Many received the benefits of her art, cooking, sewing, crocheting and gardening skills. She tended her beautiful flowers inside and out with love and was always glad to share a bouquet. The tiniest flower to her was a joy. She was formerly employed by General Electric and Link Aviation. With her husband Gurdon, she shared all of life's adventures: traveling, camping and seeing the beauty of God's world. They were deeply in love with each other, "Always" to the last moment. They were truly two becoming one. Together they worshiped, loved and raised a daughter, teaching her to "see" beauty in nature. They so loved and enjoyed their grandchildren and delighted in their great-grandchildren. Anne took great pleasure in encouraging their talents, especially in playing instruments, dancing, singing, art and teaching. As Anne was leaving this world, she appeared to be blessed with a vision of the good things to come which was to her family's delight. We will miss her so very much until the joy of our reunion. It seems clear she will hear "Well done good and faithful servant. Come and join in your Master's happiness."
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God, 255 Washington St., Binghamton. Rev. Ronald Piedmonte will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main St., Endicott on Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. The family wishes to extend their extreme gratitude to Dr. Dean, Darlene, Donna and all the so very loving and supportive staff at Willow Point Nursing Home. We also wish to thank the wonderful support of the churches, especially Pastors Samuel and Piedmonte, as well as Gene Nearing and Jean and John Kunsman for their frequent visits. We are so grateful for Anne's love and look forward to seeing her in heaven.
