Helen Scala Obituary

Helen A. Pollack Scala, 90, passed away peacefully with family by her side Sunday, December 26th, 2010. She was born on November 6th, 1920 in Youngstown, OH, the daughter of Gabriel and Helen Prosman Pollack. She was predeceased in 1985 by her husband, Andrew J. Scala; a son, Andrew; and a brother, Gabriel Pollack. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Checchia of Utica NY, Wilma Youarski of Endicott NY; her children Barbara (Eugene) of Brownfield ME, and Thomas (Ann) Scala of Chenango Bridge NY. Their loss is shared with her grandchildren, Patricia, Geoffrey, Brian (Deborah), Kevin (Katie), Angela and Jennifer Bourque and Andrew W. and Adrienne W. Scala of Chenango Bridge, NY; and great-grandchildren, Danielle Paquet, Crystal Sousa, Paige and Colin Bourque and Samuel Bourque. She retired from Singer Link in 1981 after 30 years of faithful service and began her second career as our beloved grandmother and community volunteer. She loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed cooking for one and all. She loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer into her late 80's. The Monday Afternoon Club was fortunate to have her as an active member, as were the residents of Fairview Good Shepherd Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Francis Assisi Church, Hillcrest.

A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Hillcrest, on Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Spring Forest Cemetery, Binghamton. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Helen may be made to your favorite charity.
