Joseph T. Wintergrass
of Vestal
Joseph T. Wintergrass, 68, of Vestal, passed away peacefully at his Vestal home on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, surrounded by his loving family. Joe is survived by his wife of 43 years, Arleen Scully Wintergrass; his two special daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Ryan Foley, Amy and Jon P. Costello; and his grandson, Jack Joseph Foley, all of Vestal; two brothers and sister-in-law, Stanley Wintergrass, Endicott, Matthew and Joan Wintergrass, Hillcrest; nephew, David and Andrea Wintergrass, Stamford, Conn., John and Elaine Wintergrass, Owego; nieces, Cel and Jim Howe, Youngstown, Ohio, Cindy and Chip Fedish, Hillcrest; several great-nieces and nephews and cousins. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Vestal, Joe served in the U.S. Army and Reserves. He graduated from Binghamton University School of Management. He was a former employee of Link Aviation, and retired in 2004 from the Broome County Office of Employment and Training. Joe was a loving husband and adored father. He loved the game of golf, and was a regular at Ely Park, as well as an avid spectator at Saratoga Race Track. Joe's family extends a sincere thank you to Dr. Joseph Readling and staff of Broome Oncology at Wilson Square for the wonderful care and support they gave him. A special thank you to Dr. Bruce Bowling of Endwell Family Physicians and also to Lourdes Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday at 9:30 a.m., and at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Joe may be made to Catholic Charities of Broome County, 232 Main Street, Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
