Tema Strosberg Obituary

Tema Strosberg
of Endwell
Tema Strosberg, 85, of Endwell and formerly of Utica, passed away peacefully, January 23, 2004, in Wilson Memorial Hospital surrounded by her devoted family. She was born on July 16, 1918, in Novy Korczyn, Poland, the daughter of the late Chile and Tzippa Perlmutter Mapa. Tema was a survivor of the Holocaust. She and her husband, also a survivor, came to America in 1949 and settled in Utica. Tema was a member of Congregation Zvi Jacob and its sisterhood and life member of Hadassah. She was an avid hiker with the Tramp and Trail Club of Utica for many years, a published Yiddish poet, a prolific cook, a dear mother and a partner in the Empire Furniture Co. with William. Tema suffered from Alzheimer's Disease for many years and spent the last eight years in the care of her loving son. She will forever be cherished for her nurturing, peace loving nature and her love of the natural world. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, William; one son, Jeffrey Strosberg, Endwell; one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Mark Anderson, Frankfort; four grandchildren, Sophia, Benjamin and Vivian Strosberg, and Seth Anderson.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2004, from Congregation Zvi Jacob, 110 Memorial Parkway East, with Rabbi Howard Matasar, officiating. Interment will be in Tifereth Zvi Cemetery, Whitesboro. Shiva will be observed at the home of Jeffrey Strosberg, 608 Valleyview Drive, Endwell, N.Y., 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with a minyan service at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to the Alzheimer's Association of Central New York.
Funeral arrangements are with Jacobson-Pizer Funeral Chapel, Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica.
