Walter R. Fowler
of GreeneWalter R. Fowler, 70, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2003, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City. He was predeceased by his parents, G. Wyland and Lila Fielding Fowler, a special aunt, Evangeline D. Fowler, and by a father-in-law, Norman E. Ludlam. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sharon Fowler, Greene; a son and daughter-in-law, William R. and Jennifer Fowler, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara J. and Jon Putrino, Endwell; one granddaughter, Mallory Anne Fowler; brother and sister-in-law, Wyland L. and Janet Fowler, Dunnellon, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Florence R. Ludlam, Johnson City. Walt retired from Singer Link after 36 years of service. Walt was a member of the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ , Greene. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post #974 in Whitney Point. He was a member of Eastern Light Lodge #126 in Greene, where he served as secretary for many years. He was Mason of the Year in 1985. Walt was an avid antique car enthusiast and was a member of the Buick Club of America. He attended many antique car shows and won numerous awards while in the company of his good friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Walt was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was very devoted to his family.
Funeral and committal services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church U.C.C., Greene. Rev. Richard Tosh, will officiate. Burial will be in Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, Pa. Friends of the family may call Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene. A Masonic service conducted by Eastern Light Lodge #126 will be held Thursday evening at 7:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Walt's memory may be made to the Greene Fire Department or Emergency Squad, 8 N. Canal St., Greene, N.Y. 13778 or to the charity of one's choice.
