Burel Gomillion Obituary
Burel Gomillion, 91, of Walton, NY, passed away on June 16, 2013 in Covington, GA. He was born in RidgeSpring, South Carolina November 15, 1921. He grew up in Hempstead andwas a graduate of Hempstead High School. Burel served in the United States Navy as a Pharmacist Mate at Montford Point, Camp Johnson, NC. He attended Wilberforce University, Howard University, and Columbia University where he received his degree. He relocated to Walton, NY where he resided for over 40 years. He retired from the United States Postal Service in Oneonta, NY. Hobbies included traveling, playing tennis,and collecting artwork from his grandchildren. He is survived by his children Norina Mosby, Daria Ingram, Tracy Byrd, Burel Gomillion, Naomi Thompson, Milledge Gomillion, and Joy Stephenson; 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; three sisters, Naomi Marsh, Lorraine Bythewood, Jean Murphy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral and Burial will take place Friday, June 28, 2013. Service will take place at St. John's Episcopal Church, Huntington, NY at 10AM. Burial will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY at 1PM. Arrangements by Wheeler Funeral Home and Crematory, Covington, GA 30016. My Dear Gomillion Family I met Burel for the first time when he spoke at our cousin Milledge's funeral. I marveled at the fact that he lived in the mountains alone. More than that was his physical appearance. It did not match his age. He looked 20 to 25 years more youthful than his birth age. Let us keep our memories of this wonderful family member in our minds and in our hearts. He obviously lived a life that most of us would be just a little jealous of. He is now at home with our God and with all of our family members that proceeded him on this, his final journey. Uncle Burel please say hello to my mom and tell her I miss her. I love you all.
