THOMPSON, Jerald Roy "Jerry" Passed away in Santa Rosa, CA, June 23, 2017, loving father of Beth Thompson and Daniel Thompson. Former husband of Mary Thompson. Brother of Joan Jack and the late James Pluth. Son of the late Roy and Loretta Thompson. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews A native of Petaluma, Jerry attended St. Vincent Schools, graduating in the Class of 1963. He was an outstanding athlete from Little League all the way through high school and Santa Rosa Junior College, excelling in baseball and basketball. After his retirement from the Civil Service at Mare Island, he continued to work as an umpire and a trainer for the NCOA. Jerry was a proud Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was 71 years of age. Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Liturgy, Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma.

As a fellow member of NCOA, I can attest to his lasting legacy of goodwill. Jerry would always be engaged in lively conversation with fans, players and, fellow officials. He was loved and admired. It was a blessing to have him in our lives.

I first met Jerry the summer of 98 on the softball field. He was the ump and I was behind the plate. Jerry was always singing Buffalo Gals or telling me a joke. I had a fun 12 years playing softball with Jerry as the Ump. You will be missed. RIP Jerry.

I've known Jerry through our Coast Guard MWR Sports programs since 2002. I will always fondly remember his humor, honesty, and ability to calm even the most aggravated players into compliance with rules. My most sincere condolences to his family both immediate and external.
