Ruth Johnston Obituary

RUTH EVELYN AMES JOHNSTON (1922 - 2012) Ruth was born on February 7, 1922, Fullerton, Calif. to George Paul Ames and Evelyn Beatrice Gerry (both deceased). She now is in the present of our Lord as of March 30, 2012 dying of natural causes in Palm Desert, Calif. Married November 1, 1941 to Lawrence Collins Johnston, Sr. for 70 years. In 1940 while in high school she started working at Kress 5 and 10 Store in Riverside, Calif. In 1954, she started working at the Riverside County Assessor's Office and did so for the next 23 years. She was very proud to be descendants of the Mayflower Pilgrims and was a member of the National Society Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century. Additionally, she was a Lifetime member of the Harlow Associations of Plymouth, Mass. She had attended Southwest Community Church in Palm Desert, Calif. since 1981. During her life time her hobbies included making wool rugs and enjoying her flower garden. Survivors are husband, Lawrence C Johnston, Sr.; Children: Kathleen E. Hutchens (Paul), of Reno, Nev., Lawrence C. Johnston, Jr. of Crestline, Calif. and Barbara J. May (Michael Sr.) of Anza, Calif; grandchildren Duane Wood (Tammy) of Salinas, Calif, Bryan Wood of Riverside, Calif, Michael W. May, Jr, Desert Hot Springs, Calif., Stephanie J. May of Anza, Calif. and Erin J. Cossack (Brian) of San Jacinto, Calif. In addition, 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Margaret (Peggy) Bridges, daughter Beatrice Ann Johnston, daughter-in-law Caryl Johnston and great granddaughter Abbygail Grace Cossack. Celebration of Life was held at Southwest Community Church, Indian Wells, CA on Friday, April 13, 2012. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Harlow Associations of Plymouth, Mass. or a charity of your choice.
