It often seems that life's lesson are far less important or complex than the lessons we learn from death. Joe's passing is teaching me many things about life, love, family, relationships, regrets, what is important, and what is not.
Joe's character was too grand for this Earth, and I think we're all lucky to have gotten to experienced the person that he was. I'm grateful to have played some small part in Joe's life, because he has played quite a large one in mine. I'm also thankful for both our last names to begin with the letter "B." Sharing homeroom with him was probably the only reason I showed up to school most days.
It is needles to say, but Joe was a great person. He was funny, deep, caring, creative and intelligent on so many levels.
To Joe's parents; I thank you for giving the world this great person. I hope you find a way to make sense of this monumental loss. My thoughts are with you and your family, and shall be for quite a while to come.

What a source of joy Joe was! His enthusiasm for everything was contagious. It was a delight to watch him grow into a handsome and accomplished young man. I, alas, know how hard it is to lose a son at such a young age. Please take comfort in the memories of how much Joe enriched the lives of all of us who knew him.
