Eileen Doyle Rosen

1942 - 2014

WALLINGFORD - Eileen Patricia Doyle Rosen, 71, of Wallingford, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late John F. Rosen Sr., who died nine months earlier on Jan. 24, 2014.

She was born in Boston, Mass., Oct. 16, 1942, one of five children of William Doyle and Ellen Bennett Doyle. Eileen graduated from Central Connecticut State University and was an elementary school teacher. Along with her husband, she ran Mercury Travel Agency for 40 years and traveled the world. She was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection in Wallingford. She also served as a mentor in the Big Brother Big Sister Program; and she was a host to the Fresh Air Fund. Eileen loved being around children and volunteered her time to working with preschoolers at Little Zion Preschool in Wallingford. Eileen was a kind and loving person who's smile and bright blue eyes lit up any room. She was the best mom and grandmother anyone could ask for. She was the most thoughtful person, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary. Her warmth and compassion helped to define the way she touched so many people. Eileen was a second mother to all of the nieces and nephews, and along with her late husband was the glue that kept extended family together and connected hosting wonderful get-togethers for the entire family year after year.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John F. Rosen Jr., and Cindy Nachman-Rosen, of Potomac, Md.; her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Timothy Houchin, of Durham; her grandchildren, Sammy and Zach Senders, and Emily, Erin and Liam Houchin; her sister, Margaret McNally, of Hingham, Mass.; her brother, William Doyle, of New Haven, her brother, John Doyle, of East Bridgewater, Mass., and her brother, Roger Doyle, of Wallingford. Eileen also leaves behind her dear brother in law and sister in law, Jim and Barbara Shoneck, of Bristol; and many nieces and nephews.

Eileen's family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, on Sunday, Sept. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. directly at Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford. Entombment will be in All Saints Mausoleum in North Haven.
