Charles David Hull, of
Maynard, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at Emerson Hospital on the evening of January 24. Before his illness, he enjoyed life at Camelia Gardens senior community, where he had lived from September 2023 to January 2026.
Born on November 15, 1936, in
Bridgeport, Connecticut, David was the son of Lillian and Oliver Hull. He is survived by his sister, Judith Hull Burr of Rockledge, Florida. He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria Hull, step-son, Tommy Babcock, and brother, Ollie Hull Jr.
Dave leaves behind his four children-Tyna Hull, Andrew Hull, Leslie Hull Johnsen, and Sara Hull-and their partners; as well as his granddaughter, Laura Jean Boggs, and her family.
Dave grew up in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, in the riverside neighborhood of Shady Rest with his older brother, Ollie Jr., and younger sister, Judy. He spoke proudly of his childhood as a Boy Scout and of the camping, hunting, fishing, and outdoor adventures that shaped his early years. Growing up in a close-knit community where neighbors helped one another-building garages, fixing what was broken, lending a hand-he carried those values throughout his life. He was always ready to help, whether by rolling up his sleeves or connecting others with someone who could.
He earned a degree from Teachers College of Connecticut, but his talent for connecting with people guided his path into a long career within sales, developing a passion for connecting restaurants and specialty shops with fine foods. A natural networker with an engaging personality, Dave thrived on being out in the world-meeting new people, forming friendships, and building lasting relationships. He talked to everyone.
In his personal life, Dave was a member of the Masons - as was his father. He was also very active in a number of activities. He created and ran a popular men's hockey league in
Acton, MA, for many years, and had been an avid skater during his adult year. He enjoyed a wide circle of friends at the Maynard Elks Club and, in later years, a close-knit group who gathered weekly to play pitch.
As a senior, Dave devoted himself to public service. He participated in numerous town committees and served for many years on the Board of the Council on Aging, always passionate about improving the well-being of his community. After retiring, he worked part-time at the Maynard Senior Center, where he excelled as a coordinator and continued to support those around him, often finding solutions for seniors in need.
He will be missed greatly.
